Hemmdog your tank looks great. Sorry that your goby choked on the job. My goby looked to be choking on a piece of clam but was able to get it out the discharge port after a little bit.
Thank you Crabby! Yea yea.. it happens I suppose. Wow that’s a miracle yours was able to get it out! If only mine had been more intuitive.

Apparently, this is a commonality and I wonder of a way to stop or, more importantly, prevent it. Any thoughts?
I’m not sure. I use special blend sand, which is pretty chunky. Maybe they would do better with a nice Fiji pink.

Tested the 90.
Alk 8.2
Cal 420
Mag 1400
Nitrate 25
Phos .5

Going to bump up my alk and cal on the doser and put in new bags of chemipure blue for nitrate, small bag of chemipure elite for phosphate. Not trying to get them super low, just managed.

Tested the 40
Alk 11.8
Cal 450
Mag 1480
Nitrate 10
Phosphate .03
1.026

I’m assuming my mag and alk are a little high because the salinity has creeped up on me a little. The mag does seem unusually high though. Going to do a 15gal wc on it and give myself a little reset.
Edit: I use Red Sea coral pro on this tank, so the numbers should be higher than the 90 which uses Tropic Marin pro, but not this high.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I have lost fish to choking and it sucks. Always when eating live food though.

mine was after a pe frozen mysis feeding, they are really big mysis, maybe that had something to do with it to, not just the sand.

My next tank will be an ATI lit cube.....so you know my vote. I’ve always thought they make for great reef tanks.
T5’s are great, no doubt about that. Haha

Looking very healthy, don't hit the nutrients too hard as you said.
Thank you thank you! Yea I’ll be careful to not strip them to hard.

Oh wow forgot to mention... woke up at 4am, noticed light coming from our living room. My dang hybrid’s t5’s were on! The analog timer I have for them had a nice hour and a half of t5’s in the middle of the night for my 90! I have no idea how long this has been set for , I rarely look at that timer. The width of the analog pegs to set the timer for an hour and a half looks just about the size of a kitten paw! Most likely my cat Scrambles... he’s always getting into trouble. T5 blast in the middle of the night seems very bad for coral, maybe things will take off even more now that it’s fixed !

I had this happen with my Led strip. After a reset I forgot to update the time. It was on Hawaii time. Ha
