Oh I just had a 75 rimmed not supported by the middle rim. That was what Hewbie was living in. This is his upgrade and hopefully last home.
I'm new to you and Hewbie :)

I do remember that you had a problem and *needed* to upgrade. I'm assuming your tank leaked from the bottom :winking-face:

Definitely anything is possible. I don't want you to take me for any kind of expert, I'm just a fan of Hewbie, and I have had A LOT of tanks in my day, though most have been freshwater admittedly.

Yes that was over a year and a half ago sadly his first home leaked and he got a new used 75-gallon tank and before that he was going to go into another tank I bought used and that didn’t hold water either. So my lesson I learned with three tanks one of which was recent is don’t buy used or Aqueon. The first tank he was in only held water for a month. And in total I have had three tanks leak on me apparently I have horrible luck with tanks lol. He outgrew his most recent home and this is his upgrade.:) Hewbie loves all his fans and can’t wait to get out of the bin life!

Love Mr. Hewbie coming up for a snack!

I hope (as always) that I've given you guys sound advice. I'm pretty sure I have as far as the tank and that center brace. I'm definitely open to suggestions from anyone who knows better :)

Tank should be sitting on some foam to take any imperfections out of the stand when weight is added (ie. water).
A lot of stands will use a Plywood plate, then foam to do this.
I kind of forgot about this/thought of doing it but it was my understanding that it’s more important to do it with a rimless tank compared to a rimmed tank?

Possibly - for me it was just piece of mind, it takes up any slack that may be there from the stand being slightly out etc.

No sir! Regular "standard" tanks with a plastic frame (such as the OP has) should rest on the plastic frame, with nothing in between the tank and stand. Only the plastic frame needs to be supported, and these tanks do not require a mat underneath :)

Agree putting it on foam can actually cause issues and pressure points. If you are worried about the levelness of the framing where the tank sits it would be ok to use a very thin yoga mat style of padding. But as long as all 4 corners of the tank are supported level and well it will be fine with small irregularities in the horizontal lengths.

A center support is not there to support the tank it is there to add structural integrity to the stand itself. Personally if I were to build it for this particular tank I would have added one. But I tend to over build stands.

And it is absolutely massive at least for me and the space lol! He’s going to be so happy!:) And what are your opinions on adding a center brace with wood? Do you think it needs it? I personally do but it’s only four feet as opposed to a longer tank. I am tempted to add a piece of plywood over it instead to cover the top. The same way I’m adding one to the bottom and sides.

The stand looks sketchy and will likely collapse in a strong earthquake. It may be ok for small shakes but when the roof and walls fall on this it's going to cave in real quick.

I would not bother doing a water test with this tank because it's not in my house. What I would do is put it on the wall instead of haphazard in the middle of the room, but hey, that's just me.

Hurry up! Hubbie needs his new home before Xmas! Good Luck. :p:cool:

I would definitely use a brace for sure. Better to be safe than sorry. Also, is to possible to take the tank upstairs or outside to leak test it? It might be a pain in the butt, also better to be safe than sorry.

wait until he get 12" then say that again...haha love that little guy.

I personally think the stand is fine. it based off a tried and true design. once you add a skin it will strengthening it up even more.
that is build 10-20X better then the stands they sale at the box stores.

ask around your local area someone might have a utility pump and hose to help you leak test it. it's prob. fine but you never know. be a shame to wast the RODI water and salt to fine out.
