I know there are a bunch of you with tanks, that haven't posted in the Hudson Valley forum in awhile.

Post your thoughts, tank pics, local vibes, complaints, reef keeping wishes for 2023 here.

Let's hear what everyone has been up to!!

Noble attempt, Matt!

All your stuff is blowing out my tank! It's absurd. I tried posting a video but R2R said "NO!" Maybe another time.

Hey Chris. Yeah..thanks. Apparently this forum is quite dead. Kind of a bummer. Seems like we had gained some momentum pre global disaster. Oh well.

Anyway, glad to hear that your tank is growing out of control! Lol! Post a few pictures. I’m curious to see it before you take a bone cutter to everything. Any chance you have some of my red dragon? Lost all mine.

Hope you find a home for some of that overgrowth!

Picked up a ton of acros at CFFM
not pictured here. Adding a 40 gallon refugium with dragons breath in the next couple weeks to the 220.

New to the hobby as we just set up our first reef tank a couple weeks ago, and my sons and I are excited to start slowly adding some coral to the tank. I can already see how & why this hobby is so enjoyable & addicting as we’re already obsessed with it with just 2 clownfish, 10 hermit crabs, and a conch in the tank. Looking forward to diving deep into the hobby and meeting some good people through it too. I’m fairly local in Westchester County & just wanted to say hi to the group.
Our new tank is a Red Sea MAX Nano Peninsula 26 gallon.

I'm curious where you all shop?

I'm in Old Forge, and have no issues traveling to LFS's. I just never find anything worth traveling to in the hudson valley. I typically go out to Rochester, or Buffalo.

Where have you been shopping so far?
I go to House of Fins & Greenwich Aquaria in Greenwich, CT, and I also go to Absolutely Fish & Ely’s Aquarium Store in NJ. House of Fins has been servicing my freshwater tanks once a month for a few years & we ordered our new reef tank & most of our equipment from them. They’re a bit expensive, but they’re really good people c are incredibly helpful, & have a great selection of livestock (especially for salt water). Always looking to find new aquarium stores to check out though.

Old Forge is pretty far away from where we are. In the Hudson Valley, there are three main stores for SW fish and coral. Aquarium Solutions 101, Hudson Valley Fish-N-Reef and Pete's. First two in Wappingers and Pete's in Fishkill. All 3 are very different, though I'd definitely go with the first two, if you are short on time. 101 and HVFNR sell nice coral and fish, Pete's mostly fish and inverts. House of Fins, Greenwich Aquaria and Absolutely Fish are all very nice stores. Also in NJ not too far from Absolutely Fish is Sea Level Aquarium, another hidden Gem. I've never been to Ely's. I'll have to stop by some time. In Rochester, I'm a fan of Caribbean Forest and The Reef Shoppe... two very classy joints.

Agreed , Pete’s is terrible. The Greenwich stores are way overpriced.
Anthony at Reef Shoppe is a great guy. If you’re down this way you should also check out Aqua Reef Aquatics in Eastchester.

I totally get it. I love traveling to find a new LFS. Pretty cool that you have a reef tank up in the Adirondacks. Do you know other reefers up there? I used to travel to Old Forge with my family every winter, to go snowmobiling. Good memories.

If you are ever heading to Yonkers again, you can stop by Aqua Reef Aquatics, brand new store in Eastchester. Jaws is up that way too.

There’s also Sound Aquatics in Thornwood and Complete Aquarium in Bedford Hills both not far from Jaws

Hello and congrats! This is a really great hobby, especially to do with kids, if they are in to it. I totally remember the day when I was so excited to add a clown and a few hermits to my system. Eventually you will be like most of us, with a tank so full of inverts, fish and coral, you barely notice the little critters scooting around. Definitely enjoy every phase of it!
