I use a plastic filter cup that sits in the sock holder which I line with cheap filter wool. The filter wool gets thrown out every 5-7 days and I put fresh in. The wastefulness of it bothers me a bit but it's very convenient...
Haha, where do you get plastic filter cups?

Flip them inside out if you can, rinse off some of the collected crud.
Toss them into washer with about a capful of bleach (regular non frilly scented stuff) wash on a gentle cycle with low/no spin. If they still smell like bleach, run a rinse cycle or a 2nd time without more bleach.
Let air dry.
What if any bleach was left behind, couldn’t that kill fish?

It's a roller filter. Basically a sock that rolls on its own when it starts getting dirty.
Nice! I’m 16 starting out a new 90 gal with a sump, it’s all so expensive, maybe I will buy myself that for christmas

I eliminated filter socks many many years ago because I am just too lazy and the wife didn't want them in our washing machine. Now with the fleece roller options I went ahead on my new build and bought a Trigger system's Platinum sump with the fleece roller built in. No more changing out filter socks every few days and I can sit back for months without worrying about changing the roll and I get that clean clean
Jeez I don’t even wanna think about how much that costs

Probably not with how much residue we're talking about. But I am cautious so that's why if I smell any, I run another rinse cycle; and then let air dry. Over time I've figured out how to adjust my wash settings so they never come out smelling of bleach.

I don’t use socks for bacteria but rather rocks in my sump. I wash my socks as they start to run over the top. I have 3 sets and rotate them each change.

Ahh, I would buy socks, I just don’t know how to wash them. I don’t trust bleach at all, and I don’t have a power washer

I use a mesh filter sock and it’s very easy to hand wash it and put it back in the sump right away.
