You can do it both ways.
I dose potassium nitrate for my no3 and feed the fish 2 times a day for the po4
Feeding more than that adds too much po4 and algae comes running in.
I keep my po4 at .014 to .016 (triton ICP )
And keep my no3 at 2-3 ppm (red sea pro)

When you see corals pale up you should drop the lighting intensity as to not harm the zooxanthellae that is still populated.

Before I had the Atlantiks, I had the Nilus fixture. When I switched, the green Monti I had up high in the tank went pale. However, when I broke and moved the Monti lower, it greened right back up. I left a second Monti alone, up high. The high Monti grows like crazy, but is pale. The low Monti is dark green, but grows much slower.

I guess my point is that just a few inches makes a big difference. And, what might have been seemingly fine under one fixture may not be under another. What I might have thought was a result of spectrum or intensity was actually a result of my own positioning of coral.

That's how my monti is.... Washed out and growing like a weed. Also have some sps growing but pale. However I will say some were added just 45 days ago so I guess it could still be adjusting.

Gentlemen, Sorry for the delay but I've been away at MACNA and not on Reef2reef very often. Most of you have my cell# and can feel free to call or text. We don't always check this forum daily as we use email and direct contact as our primary way to communicate with our clients.

We do however appreciate your efforts to help each other.

Coral color is a results of all things coming into line with each other. One of the things that I didn't see mentioned above is the mounting position of each of your lights above the tank. For example: 2 units of V2.1 is a TON of light for a 90g tank. These fixtures would need to be run at a lower % than over your 125g. If you place them close to the water surface you would need to have them at an even lower %...... Here is our MACNA tank set up with one unit and this is EXACTLY how we would set the light up in an actual install on a tank this size (120g 4x2x2)

Let me see if I can get James to chime in here on the color issues. Finding the balance of color and growth is part of what each of us must do and each tank is different. So, what works for one person may not work for the other.

Talk to you guys soon.

-Scott

Thanks Scott! I reduced to 1 unit today but now dealing with too little coverage at ends. Light is about 10 inch above water and will probably need 6 inch rise to cover tank. But on the plus side it looks like I will be able to greatly increase channel strengths. I sent you an email earlier today as well about a skimmer. Thanks for the help everyone.

If you run the light about 12-14 inches you'll cover the entire tank.

This picture from MACNA is the standard 120g with one unit of Atlantik.

That's going to look good when it's all grown in! How is the SPS coral doing for you?

Doing great! Relocated a monti-cap that was too high in relation to some acros, but very happy with spectrum and intensities.

Well only a temporary fix and a bit of an eye sore but should do the trick until we build the new house and upgrade to the 300g.

My apologies to the op. I wasn't intending to hijack, just wanted to show the Atlantiks. I run mine straight down and all 3 are at 92% for 8 hours with a 2 hour ramp on each end. I find you can manipulate sps growth with light angle as well as water flow/direction.Hth.
