so, the thermometer in the tank says 70 and it stays at 70-71. we can’t find a good heater for the tank, so how can I get it warmer without using a heater? The fish need a 70-80 temp.

I wouldn’t worry about it. These fish come from areas where average water temps are similar to room temperature. My guppies are doing fine unheated.

Hi! I’m new to this forum! I have a fish tank which is 5 gallons, im still going to add 2 more hides to it though. And i am planning once the ph balance gets good I’m planning to get my fishes! I know this is a saltwater fish forum, but I’m getting freshwater fish since it’s my first time having fish exept for a beta I had years ago.

Welcome.. nothing wrong with starting with fresh water. Good way to learn little about tanks and more important how much you enjoy keeping a tank before you dive into salt witch is more technical and expensive.

I agree. I also suggest to start the fish in a container of their water and slowly add tank water until you match the original volume or do more than it. It goes a long way, especially for the sensitive fish.

Not necessarily. Two things come to mind. The first is increased tank temp. The second is algae. Direct sunlight is gonna result in lots of it.

Don’t remind me...
My CA/SA cichlid tank is up against a window and algae is horrible. An algae scraper and frequent water changes helps a lot.
I actually was able to unplug the heater because it got too hot, it now sits around 74 unheated.
