Has anyone here tried the HIATT FILTRATION SYSTEM.
From all the hype it looks incredible but I was wondering has anyone tried this.

It is basically TRBC (special carbon)
Right now bacteria.
then there are add ons like
ph rock etc.

I am in no way selling this stuff I am just wondering ....
DOES ANYONE USE IT!!!
Has anyone tried it.

If Not I am the guinea pig with my brand new tank LOL

hah! sorry... :)

it works for its purpose. pretty much all i have to say about it. don't think i'd ever try it for a reef system, but for fish only it creates a stable, fairly easy-maintenance environment.

why would you not use it for a reef system? I have noticed the algae going away rather quickly and my nitrates are slowly dropping.
registered at 20 after I had to have the skimmer off for the first day of adding bacteria.
so now I will monitor how many days till it drops the nitrates again.

Just curious, what size tank are you running this filtration system on? Where did you get the TBPC and ph rock? I had been looking at this for a new tank setup I'm currently planning and everywhere I attempted to purchase the TBPC and ph rock their shipping was outrageous.

Actually I agree everywhere was ripping me off on shipping then I found this site.

Tri Base Pelletized Carbon - Activated Carbon Water Purification
hope that helps I am building a carbon chamber instead of using the red torpedo ( I am on a limited budget and very DIY)
anyways some 3-4 inch pvc and about one hour in lowes and I figured out what should work I will keep you posted.

btw as an update. My nitrates dropped to 0-5 from 10-20 in one week.
no ammonia or phosphates.
I added the right now bacteria in two stages as I added the carbon in two stages as well.
I only have 5 lbs.of TBPC in my sump so its not even set up right yet and it is still working great.
My nuisance algae has steadily declined since christmas
The red/brown slime algae literally started declining right away.

wow my nitrates dropped and my copepods exploded LOL
my tank has so many little white moving dots (snails and other pods) it look like it snowed.
Also I have to vacuum my crushed coral bottom as there is a frosting of brown to black dust on it. I was told this is the dying algae ??
can anyone confirm this?

I took the plunge and bought my first fish.
2 clark clowns and 1 cleaner shrimp.

My nitrates have been 0-5 for over a week and when I checked them tonite they were 0

will keep you posted on the increased bio load and how the ammonia/nitrates react

LOL this is working so well that I am putting in few more pounds of the special carbon and I am converting my freshwater to it as well.

freshwater 30 gal is way overstocked and full of nitrates but all the fish there have lived in it for a few years.
wonder if they will start breeding if I clean up the water a bit

Since I started using this (and again I am not up to the recommended levels yet) anyways my ammonia and nitrates have stayed at 0
with just the live rock and DSB my ammonia was never a problem but my nitrates would steadily climb and with only a cleaning crew that had me concerned.
Glad to see something fairly easy to use cleared up teh nitrates so easily.

now if I could get the slime algae under control everything would be just about perfect hehe. (later this week i am adding the additional carbon and something called metal b gone )

Since I started with Tap water this is supposed to help clear up the slime algae and nuisance algae, you have to be careful though as it will lower your MG and CA levels a bit as well.
