Hey all! So, living in Japan, the overflow systems on reef-ready systems are still kind of stone-aged. In the pic attached, you see exactly what my system has. The down pipe is surrounded with a removable square overflow box. I was thinking about removing this white overflow box and cementing rock around the down pipe, giving me just a bit more realty, while removing a nasty eye sore. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe if you know something premade, before I go ahead with the difficult task of cutting up rocks and trying to fit them properly.

TIA

I taped off that section and painted it black so you can't see in from the sides.
I used the plasti dip paint so I can remove it if I ever decide to.
I was thinking about that a while ago, but my goal is to remove the white overflow box and cement rocks to the standpipe to remove that eye sore, gain more space, and make the tank look better.

You could get a sheet of black ABS, and replace the white box with black. It would be an improvement.

I have used Rust-Oleum 7990830 Stone Creations Spray on pipes. It makes them less ugly until coraline grows over them.
Not sure if avail in Japan
