Last week I rescued a hippo tang with velvet. So far I’ve got him in copper and just finished four treatments of Furan-2. He still isn’t looking so good. I have another QT running that I’m planning to transfer him to today. My question is should I use Formalin? I’ve never used Formalin can I put Formalin in the tank he is in now with Furan-2? Or should I just use a bucket with new water for a 40 minute bath?

Have 2 buckets ready. Formalin is recommended as a bath/dip. First give it a freshwater bath (2 minutes or so) and then the formalin bath, then to QT

I’m not seeing how much Formalin to use per gallon. My LFS told me one drop per gallon but didn’t say anything about a 40 minute bath.

He is out of hiding now and eating. Should FW dip and Formalin bath be the first thing I do if I know it’s velvet? Then run Furan-2?
See if formalin did the trick before considering furan

It’s been one week now at full copper and he is still covered with dust. He is eating a little and swimming pretty good. Should I give him another bath in Formalin?
Yes and add garlic or vitamins to his food

Should I repeat what I did last time? 5 minute FW dip, 45 minute Formalin, new QT or can he go back to the QT he is in now?
repeat yes, and new QT or water change not bad idea and cysts that fell off may have remained in current QT

So I did a total of three baths and transferred four times, copper the whole time. I think he is going to make it. Should I get him out of copper and run GC or can I run GC and copper at the same time? Thanks for your help!!
