I just received my BRS CO2 scrubber, and I thought I'd make things more efficient by running a line from the scrubber, to outside. I have hear people express concern over pollutants getting into the tank this way, so I figured I'd run a DIY carbon filter between the scrubber and the outside line to absorb any nasty chemicals that may be in the air. Where I am stuck is deciding exactly how I want the filter to function, and what brand/type of carbon i should use in this application. My current train of thought has be suspending the carbon in RODI water, and having the air, pass through the carbon/water mix before going to the CO2 scrubber, and then the skimmer air intake. I've also been considering just leaving the filter dry, and hoping for the best. I could use some discussion here on the pros and cons of each application, as well as a brand of carbon that would work for this.

Need some help identifying the venturi tubing on the Bubble Magus Curve 5 skimmer, so I can connect it to my CO2 scrubber. Can anyone lend a hand here?

It's the tube that goes to the pump inlet. I would use a fine granular charcoal and run it dry.

That tube that goes to the venturi, what size tubing is that? I can tell you that it's much smaller than the 3/8ths tubing that came with the CO2 scrubber.

I hooked mine up last week.

Used silicon to mount a tupperware container to the top of my skimmer cup to recirculate air, and hooked the scrubber up to the current air inlet.

You can see I bought a tube to put inside the tube that comes with the scrubber. Its a very tight fit. I took the red tip to home depot to find the match.

I see that you went directly to the silencer. What size tubing did you get from the hardware store?

I can let you know later when I get home, but if I were you, I would take a piece of the tubing that came with the scrubber and the red silencer tip with you to the store.

Might have to do that. I was trying to avoid using the silencer, as I've read that it takes away from the skimmers efficiency, but at this point, I'm just like, whatever works.

I have never run it without a silencer, but I have always pulled a lot, and it didn't change after adding the scrubber. I probably didn't need a scrubber, but I'm happy staying above 8 now.

Let me see if I can pull this off with what I have on hand when I get home tonight. Thanks for the idea. Still want to go straight to the venturi, but if this works, so be it.

Don't have anything in the house that would fit the top of the silencer. Very curious to see what size tubing you used, because the venturi is a similar size.

This is what is it.

It fit onto my silencer and into the stock tubing that came with the co2 scrubber. I also have a curve 5

Outstanding! Thank you!

How’s are you guys liking the results on the set up? I’ve been considering going the CO2 scrubber route since I can’t get my pH above 7.9 and wanted to see if I could get faster growth by raising it.

I know this thread is a couple years old but wanted to let you guys know you solved my 3/8” tubing to 1/4” tubing issue with my new scrubber on my Curve 5. Thanks much!

How?

I am in the same boat.

I heading to Ace, and if that fails, Home Depot later tonight with a small bit of each tubing, looking for coupler that will fit.

Get some 3/8 inch OD with 1/4 inch ID tubing. I found mine at Lowe’s but they should have it at Ace or Home Depot. The tube fits snug in BRS’s 3/8 in tubing and the 1/4” fits perfectly on the silencer.

I know this post is a little old but have any of you guys had issues with the skimmer after doing this setup? Mines seem to skim more wet now then before.

Raise the skimmer. There is less air going into the skimmer with the scrubber hooked up.
