How many different food items do you feed your fish and what are they?

We're continuing our topics pertaining to Aquarium Food, feeding, etc. today and you can't talk about feeding without talking about the food right!? Some of our fish are on a pretty basic diet, simple and not complex. Others have fish who are accustomed to a buffet, a smorgasbord of different types of food. Let's talk about it today!

For me, it depends on the situation. A single food item is suitable in some cases; mysid shrimp for garden eels, or an enriched pellet for goldfish. Omnivores probably require the most variety - meaty foods plus plant material.

Proper nutrition is vital to all animals. The fish in your aquarium rely solely on you to meet all of their dietary requirements, and their food must be provided in sufficient quantity to supply the energy they need in order to grow. The diet must also have the proper balance of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, as well as the proper amount of vitamins and minerals.

I have some "go to" foods - NLS pellets, PE Mysis, air dried Nori (not roasted) and gel diet if I want to add in nutrients or medications (I NEVER soak foods to try and add these things - there is no way to know how much material actually gets into the fish, or how much washes off just as quickly when you add it to the tank).

Shrimp, flounder, mysis,plankton,fish eggs,clams,oysters,muscles,brine shrimp and algea mostly nori.

Hikari and PE Mysis, Seaweed Extreme pellets, TDO Chromoboost Pellets, Golden Pearls 500-800nm and I occasionally soak pellets in vitamins and Selcon before feeding. I don't feed nori, as I find that my tangs graze on the rock more without it...

I have fish outliving their wild counterparts being fed just New Life Spectrum pellets in autofeeders. For some of the finicky fish I'll add Two Little Fish's ZoaPlan.

I feed frozen brine, frozen mysis, frozen fish eggs, nls pellets, Hikari seaweed extreme pellets, sheets of nori, and I am starting to occasionally feed live white worms (this will increase as my culture grows).

I'm in the 5-10 range. I wasn't sure how to count homemade DIY foods. That had so much variety in it that it would be around 20 by itself.

It depends on what I’m feeding, my adult seahorses get frozen mysis and that’s all.
seahorese fry after live bbs they get mostly frozen mysis and some frozen brine shrimp.
the reef gets Rods original blend, froze brine, mysis and krill. Along with some flakes and pellets and green and purple nori.

10 plus i voted
I feed mainly clams/oysters/mussels/scallops.
But also couple times a week feed frozen cubed food mysis/copepods/brine shrimp/and krill but fish not so keen on krill.
Very rarely like once a month or if having trouble buying clams/shellfish I feed first some pellet food so 8 off my fish get it then same as always finely dice/slice/chop up the clams/shellfish and feed with tweezers my copperband as he only eating shellfish so if low on it he defo gets his share whilst other fish have to put up with mainly pellets for day or so until can get more shellfish.
2x a week place some algae sheets and cut in strips on a clip and let fish have their fill then place clip down nearly touching sandbed so nassarious snails and hermits can get some

2 - Frozen adult artemia (Ocean nutrition) and frozen freshwater cyclops (Ocean Nutrition) and done this for 6 years now . Plus everything that grow by itself in the aquarium!

Currently feed the following fish foods:

Omega One flakes x 2 times a week
Ocean Nutrition small pellets x3 times a week
Nyos Wild Goji x2 times a week

Small pinch of flakes and pellets mix and rotated with the afternoon mysis feeding.

Because if I was a fish I sure wouldn’t want to eat the exact same thing everyday and they feed different species. One food is not fits all in a saltwater aquarium.

Freeze Dried Mysis, Brine, Krill, Formula one pellets, and NLS pellets for my bony fish. My Sharks and eel get all frozen, wild caught, no preservative Scallops, Shrimp, and Squid. Selcon and Vitachem supplements for bony fish and Iodine supplements for the sharks. Also Seaweed on a clip of course and natural algae on rocks/sand, tangs love that stuff.
