I do about 5% once a month. My biggest headache is all my softies growing into each other

Isn't no water changes for 10 years the definition of neglect?
Is it? If one isn't doing water changes, but watching chemistry like a hawk and dosing consistently everything known to be necessary for maintenance, does that count as neglect?

And you’re right. It wasn’t instantaneous. It happened over a period of progressively worsening months. At the time, I tried GFO, and the problem continued to get worse.
That was my point, I wasn't calling out anyone or attacking anyone. You don't go to sleep one night with a pristine tank, and wake up the next morning to a tank overrun by GHA. It is something that when ignored and allowed to take hold, makes you pay for doing so. And it can do so in tanks doing or not doing water changes.

I live in the Dominican Republic and it's very hard or expensive to get brand name salts like you usually do in the states. What we do is get water directly from the Atlantic ocean via the national aquarium for a very low price, like 1$ every 5 gallons. Water change is a non-negotiable maintenance step for my tank :)

I do weekly water changes as a measure against something going wrong in the tank parameters. Being a novice, I don't want to take chances and make assumptions about the balance of my system. Water changes seem to be a good buffer against radical shifts in the tank. Works for me!

My tank is newer, 29g Biocube setup around the first of the year, so I'm currently changing 5 gallons every 2 weeks and initially I changed 5 gallons every week.

I don't run a skimmer and rinse (don't replace) filter pad when I do the water change. As the tank ages I'll start backing off the changes.

I don't do regular water changes. The tank is just 1 year old and I did use tank water for quarentine tanks and 1 time when I thought the anemones weren't looking too happy.

I would prefer to do regular water changes, if I lived near the sea, I would do them weekly.

Not doing regular water changes require much more work and testing. IMO, It only makes sense with large tanks.

Fuges are amazing! Here is my Xenia fuge I've been using for almost 20 years. Super simple.

What do you run for a light? How many hours do you light it? Tia!

Hello,
The light in the video is a 150 watt 10k metal halide. I now use a 16" SB Reef value fixture. The photo period is opposite the DT to limit PH swings. The Xenia fuge comes on at 8pm and turns off at 8am.

I do about 45 every three weeks or so. My corals show a positive response and I sole to vacuum my gravel really well. I’m not a stickler about it though. I go six weeks or more sometimes. It’s really just part of my thorough cleaning procedure.
I have the same size tank and employ the same Method. Approximately 45 gallons every 3 weeks

I dont do water changes, i run a Triton, my last water change was 2 months ago when my AI was through the roof. before that the tank had been 7 or 8 months without one. It it wasn't for the AI i wouldn't have needed to do one.

I don't do water changes.
I had a 110g that was water change free for about 3 or 4 years and now I upgraded to a 180g display that has not had a water change since getting wet.
I plan on not doing a water change unless something goes wrong enough to warrant a water change.

I have a ReefBot and a Trident to test the water. I have Dos to dose 2 part. I have a filter roller, skimmer, sulfur denitrator, (diy) algae reactor, carbon reactor (used only when needed), ozone generator (used as needed) and a properly sized UV sterilizer (currently offline).

Tank has been up and running for 2 months and there has been no reason to change a drop of water yet. I don't anticipate the need to do a water change anytime soon.

What
I am in the very limited water change group. I do 2 large sump cleaning water changes a year and always run skimmerless. But I dose 2 part and Mag addition through my ato. After many years doing this hobby I have figured out the key to my success in reef keeping is the KISS method. (Keep it simple, stupid) This method works with SPS, LPS, and Softies.

I am running a 60 cube, haven't done a water change in nearly 2 years.

I dose according to my test results and dose Trace Elements in ratio to my calcium intake and use NoPox to manage my nutrients as my system doesn't have a refugium.
