For me it's the following:

1. 400ml of each

2. 425g

3. Mixed mostly LPS. About 20 smaller LPS corals. 5 small soft. 20 frags. 10 sps frags. Medium monti cap.
That seems a little high for maintenance new and lightly stocked. Are you sure you aren't precipitating somewhere? But if not, sounds like a a calcium reactor is in your immediate future.

I'm using Dr. Randy's DIY recipe, which is the same as BRS.

1. Between 55 - 60 mls / day....targeting 7.5 dKH.
2. 90 gallon DT with a 40B sump....guesstimate water volume at 110 g's.
3. Old established mix reef with 75-80 percent SPS/LPS colonies.

Here's my tank.

I think 400ml sounds a bit high too. Sounds like it is precipitating. I had that happen to me before. I was putting 200ml into a 55 gallon tank. Turned my sandbed into a brick.

My tank was getting hard in the beginning but has been fine for a while.

I know I'm probably precipitating, but I'm up to 220ml alk (sodium carbonate) and 200 calcium for a 110 gallon with 30 gallon sump. It's mostly sps frags and I few colonies (probably like 40). I've tried resetting a few times and measured what it takes to keep alk and calcium up, and if I lower the dose it just keeps dropping, so at some point I have to reset again and find the stable levels. Growth is great though. I'm using brs two part and brs dosers on an apex. I try to keep alk around 10 and calcium around 440, magnesium at 1400.

Thanks for starting this discussion. I had been doing some digging looking around for a centralized place to discuss this and I think this is the place!

How much Alkalinity and Calcium 2 Part are you dosing?
  • Alkalinity - 0.294 dKh / 31.5 ml of Soda Ash Daily
  • Calcium - 2.05 ppm / 31.5 ml of Calcium Chloride Daily
How many gallons of water are you treating?
  • 120 display + 55 sump = 150 gallons water volume
How many corals do you have and what types?
  • 19 Total - Smaller frags
  • 2 Softies (palys, zoas)
  • 6 LPS (euphyllia, fungia, caulastrea, duncan, cyphastrea, etc)
  • 11 SPS (acros, montis, pavonas, birdsnests, psammocora, etc)
I'm adding 8 new sps frags and 4 chalice frags today. I'll check back in the coming weeks to update how much of an increase in dosing I'll have to implement.
