Caught this interesting discussion on fb- how much are your local fish stores currently charging for yellow tangs? Love to hear your feed back:
Your city/state/country, yellow tang price (USD), are they wild or biota captive bred, and what size?

I am in WI and no lfs has any yellow tangs (that I know of) right now. Found some biota captive bred ones in Chicago couple weeks back for $150 each at 2”.
Just a survey for data not soliciting opinions on trade politics.

No way! Kole tangs...even the yellow eyed ones use to be cheap. Lol
D
I was talking to a co-worker/fellow reefer about this. I remember yellow tangs & Nasos being 25 bucks, the previous scopas tang I had was maybe 10-15 bucks, 12 years ago! Sigh....

Days are gone bro...
No more $30 yellow tangs. Or doorbuster $1 chromis. Lol.

Scopas tangs for $45-$50 were the norm. Idk what they are now but it will continue to go up.
As the newer people coming in don't know and pay what they see...

The sw bizz literaly tripled in 10yrs... if not more.

Dd had a trio of chromis for 140 today. We used to feed chromis to frogfish until we could train them on non-live food. As high as the yellow tangs are it’s the price of chromis that I’m baffled by.

I'll get a pic, but I want to say 125ish, same as a purple. Not conditioned/QT'ed. They never stay in stock though anymore. I want a yellow eye kole but my eyes and wallet keep saying no to that price which is even higher than the yellow/purple tangs.
I too been wanting a kole… but cant seem to find them anywhere

I hope the prices of fish stabilize fwiw. The coral im actually glad to see the prices go up.
Hopefully a little more up on the coral and hold. Lol.
We will see all.
D
My feeling is coral prices will stabalze as the constant supply of captive fragged corals and competitive prices at swaps. But pelagic fish isnt slmething even an elite hobbyist can easily breed and raise, so that really limits the availability.
