5 small tangs in a 30 gallon QT with copper. I don’t have the fish yet (in delivery in 3 weeks) but I’m preparing everything now.

How big water change and every how long do you recommend me do it to prevent ammonia?

To many variables to give a good answer. How small are the tangs? How well established is the qt qith cycled media? Hiw much do you plan on feeding?
Use an ammonia alert badge, monitor daily, and observe the dishes behavior.

Probably 50% change. They eat allot and produce a good amount of waste.

Also, doing a 50% change makes it easier to dose meds or anything that needs to be carefully measured

Of course! Thank you. I will see how it goes, but I needed a basic guideline. Now I know I need to do a water change daily, instead of every day and a half.

I have 2 clowns and a baby hippo in a 30 gal qt. Went 35 days before doing my first WC. Was doing copper treatment and didnt want 5o fluctuate levels. Now that copper is over I'm feeding a little heavier and doing weekly 5gal wc, but my filter media is from a very well established tank and I've had no ammonia spikes or bacterial blooms.
