This Colorado Sunburst anemone recently sold for $12,000 at The Aquashella Aquarium Festival in Dallas. Someone wanted it REAL BAD! HA!

This isn't an April Fools joke I promise!

How much would you be willing to pay for a single live inhabitant for your reef tank?

Why? Does it monitor, clean, and maintain the tank? Does it keep the peace between inhabitants and stop hermits from killing snails? It would have to do at least the above to be worth it.

Man...I hope that is your April fools joke. If not it seems like the prank was played on that buyer!

I'm all for dropping some money on corals if you have it ( I personally wouldn't spend more than $50 a frag), but that is just ludicrous!

12k.... There is nothing in this hobby that would require me to take a home equity loan to buy. I agree with others that state that paying that much is what drives the costs way too high in this hobby. But I suppose the wealthy will do with their money what they will.

Back to the real world the rest of us live in. I said $250.00 or less, but my real hardline is probably closer to $200.00. I am far more likely to spend larger sums of money on a fish than I am a frag. Paying insane prices for something that was grown out in captive conditions in the country, and is shipped in small amounts of water is ridiculous. While a quality Hawaiian or Australian fish that is in excellent shape and had to be shipped, in water, from the other side of the planet is another story.

So I am not a anemone expert but is that like a gold standard specimen of that type?
I am not either, but definitely have seen many pictures of nicer looking CSB nems that have gone for considerably less. Can't tell if there is any forced perspective going on, next to those jawbreaker plugs, but it does look huge.

As for what I'd spend in general, on my current 65 I'd answer under $250. Next upgrade will be much much larger, and I'd consider some more expensive fish above $1k.

For the record, this was a joke. This is a Majano anemone for those who didn't recognize it.
