FOWL tank 146cm width x 36cm depth x 80cm hight - 423.36L (112g)
Currently have: 1x blue fin tang, 1x big shrimp, 2x small shrimp, a few snails, and 1x blue orange starfish.

How do I come up with a stocking plan?

I'm looking for suggestions that are easy to raise and feed while being fun for the kids to watch.

I would like to get a Clownfish and some hermit crabs

Your first step is finding fish you like. Liveaquaria is a good place to browse your options, since their stock lists represent the majority of what you’ll be able to easily find.

The second step is to research the fish you have selected. Liveaquaria is again a good resource, they give “quick stats” on each fish that note things like max length, aggression level, and minimum tank size. The tank sizes can be inaccurate, but the other two metrics are pretty sound. Make sure they will not outgrow your tank (anything that gets over 10” is too big in my opinion) and that you aren’t mixing aggressive and peaceful fish. Your tank’s dimesnsions (width especially) will limit your options, since it doesn’t give a lot of room to turn around. If you are looking to get another tang, I would only go with a yellow or any of the bristle tooth species.

The third step is to determine the order in which the fish will be added. They should be added gradually (1-2 fish every month). You want to add the most peaceful fish first, and the most aggressive last. If you’re quarantining, this works pretty well because by them time one “batch” is done with quarantine and put in the main display, you can start another.

A sample stocking plan for your tank would look as follows:

Wave 1: least aggressive fish
Firefish, silver belly wrasse

Wave 2: semi-aggressive fish
Lemonpeel angelfish, longnose hawkfish

Wave 3: most aggressive fish
Clownfish pair, royal gramma

You can definitely get away with more than what I listed, since that would put you at 8 fish total, but that’s just an idea to give you what it could look like.

I would suggest to add a lot more rock, that is very little rock for that tank size. Rocks provide hiding spaces for the fish, your tank has no hiding space at all which is stressful to fish. Also need some powerheads in the tank to create water movement, flow is very important.

I have a powerhead, I'm waiting for a water change to move the tank over .5cm so it will fit.
