I started with 5 and two were bullied and died. One of them I rescued from a viscous attack and put in a tank by itself. It had no injuries, but refused to eat and starved to death over a week. The three big and healthy ones were in a peaceful school, but one disappeared for a few days and then reappeared in a small cave in my rock work. He or she has not left this spot in 3 days and will not eat. I have not actually seen this be chased or attacked in any way. Do they stop eating if they are nesting? The one that is top center is the one I am talking about.

It's been a long time since I've been able to observe chromis on a plaque of eggs (their eggs look like spilled sugar), but from what I recall, they normally did eat while incubating.

If it is defending eggs, it will noticeably attack any fish that gets too close, even you if you do maintenance near it.
