Hydra 32 HD recommended 8-10" from the water. What would happen if it was 2" off the water?

I am brainstorming ideas for my small nano tank.

My assumption is that it would heat up the water to the point where it would cause problems. I am not sure though. I have my reasons for trying to reuse the lid that comes with my Evo. I just figured maybe it is possible to use a light like that but keep the intensity down.

I'm pretty sure the answer is obvious but I wanted some expert input.

if you have proper surface agitation of the water, it will cause little drops/splashes to fly up. 2 inches from the water is very dangerous IMO. But I'm not an expert.
