I like them for the most part, my wife HATES the fans. Ecotech lied on the fans lol. CoralCare's are worth a try to me, I haven't found the perfect lights yet.
So you got the new G2s right? Looks like they just dropped on BRS!

How much do you actually go thru? I am looking into getting a calcium reactor when my new tank has SPS in it.

That’s a loaded question as I top it off and take some fines out from melting. For my size reactor it will take about 12 pounds of course to fill, 8 pounds for secondary of fine. Probably go through another 12 pounds a year.

Tank is looking great. You are going to become the go to light guy for recommendation on the new Phillips. Hope it works like they are claiming. Keep us updated on the growth.

So I wasn’t planning on any new fish additions, unfortunately I was approached by a person when at my LFS that overheard me talking about my tank with the owner. I was asked if I had any interest in a vlamingi and a blue throat trigger and I told them no but I said shoot me a text with a couple photos and I’ll see if anybody I know would be interested. Well come to find out they had both of these fish in a 30 gallon tank along with other fish. I ended up taking both fish and paying for them (didn’t want to) the blue throat made it only 2 days in quarantine. Good news in the vlamingi is happy and healthy spending the day in its new tank after a long 45 days. I never planned on either of these fish nor do I think a Vlamingi long term belongs in my tank, she will do great for now and has 8’ to swim at least.

I officially canceled my order for the Coralcares today with BRS, they did a good job of not selling me on the lights. It’s an actual argument in this house on installing a floating canopy or hanging anything from the ceiling. I had 2 different cabinet makers quote me and could not fit me in until early next year.

76 pounds, no mounting options, needing 2 control boxes if I wanted the lights on the end lower, and really sub par for an sps dominant tank.

Now the question is 6 Kessil’s? 2 DX18’s hybrids and 6 Kessil’s? Not sure what else I can try at this point. I could leave the ecotechs but I hate the fans more and more everyday.

The goods news is everything is doing great other than losing a random small frogspawn head. SPS is looking better than ever.

Hi,

Bummer about the light. Have you thought about the hybrid and some light bars? I just started testing out a 6 bulb T5 with an actinic bar from SB reef. I have had it 1 month so far and just set it to full power after running acclimation. I have seen some color and growth change already. Just a thought.

Congrats on the Vlamingi. I had one for close to 10 years. They are awesome, need lot of food, and produce lots of poo. I had something hit my tank a bit back and took out 3 of my old tangs all at once. Never figured out what it was.

I have not thought about that, I could do a dx18 with orpheks or reef brites down the middle or just straight T5’s. I have reef brites sitting around collecting dust.

The Vlamingi is doing great! Feel like she is already growing. I feed a ton so she is already getting fat, was very skinny when I got her. Very peaceful fish and will eat right out of my hand. Great addition so far, just wondering how long it will take her to out grow my tank.

Couple changes, added a blue throat trigger and will be the last fish. Also started a dosing easyreefs evo and boost. The polyp extension has been great. I ordered 4 ATI Stratons and hopefully the RMS mounts can support the 9 lbs.
