I am pretty new but saw this tank that someone was selling, is it a good deal?

I have a bunch of tanks and they were all used fixer uppers. I wouldnt be in the hobby tonthe levek i am otherwise. If you're patient you can pick up used setups for a song. When we moved and I got back into the hobby, my wife bought me a red sea 130dd for $250. She fell in love with the tank so I bought her a 32g biocube for $130. Then I was running out of room so I picked up another red sea 130dd for $200. Then she wanted a tank just for her mushrooms, so i snagged a 9g full flex for $50. All plug and play systems, i just had to add rock, sand, water and livestock. I've since upgrade some lights and pumps, etc (again all used gear).

That being said, NEVER trust anyone used heater. I run inkbirds on all my tanks and heaters get replaced every year or so.
Buying good used systems sometimes makes it super easy to develop multitank syndrome...;)

do not buy used heaters, buy NEW for those.

I would buy a different sump, that looks like an old wet to dry sump. Wet to dry sumps are mostly for fish only as they process ammonia well but can lead to very high nitrates.

So if you are serious, plan on a new sump as well. Petco when they have $1 per gallon would be the cheapest then have glass cut for baffles and plumb yourself.

So at minumum, I would plan on a different sump, skimmer, and NEW heater to get this running in the right direction.
Also would not hurt to have backups of everything eg. came home after a weekend my heater went berserk and cooked about 7/ or 8 of my cichlids. I now have titanium heaters about 4 in reserve. About 3 powerheads just had one loose its electrical intrinsic seal and gave me a nice surprise. a pump as well , one light. Just do it as I can squeeze it into my non existing budget ha ha

I would wear a dusk mask.. This tank hasn't been cleaned since Jimmy Hendrix was alive?

I would pass, just because I don't like dealing with a corner tank and I have too many already. If it works for the OP, looks ok in the pictures. Red Solo Cup :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Would go for 2 viparspectras and they have to hang higher then that top for coverage
Currently have a Philizon 165w and can add a viparspectra later on if this is not enough. It is a long light so it has pretty good coverage.

Haha, I don't have any tanks beside the one that I currently have and I know the perfect spot for a corner tank. What is bad with dealing with corner tanks?

I have short arms, and I’m always dropping stuff that goes behind the tank.

If it holds water you’re gold!

Oh ok, I can probably get it out. It should hold water since its up and running right now and he has fish in it.
Be careful moving. Make sure all glass edges are protected from acceleration. Lots of good tanks have been ruined sliding around in a pickup bed or when the stand slides and hits the edges of the glass.

And be careful carrying through doors, a screen door is a great entry way for glass furniture.

Take everything out of the tank that can move and break it. An empty tank is easier to maneuver .

ya its not going now, I meant when it is :) You don't have to have a sump on it right away. Just put the heater in the display area.
I asked him and he said he doesn’t run a skimmer on this tank but he has an aqua ready skimmer that is a hang on back skimmer that he can throw in. I sent him a picture of the blue plexiglass one the they have and he said that it looks like that so i’m pretty sure it’s the one rated for 75 gallons. I will need to get another skimmer but in the meantime i could run that one?

You could run all the tests in it and see where it sits. It doesn’t have much fish in it now, if lucky it’s not that bad and you don’t need to do as big of a change.

If it’s really high then I’d probably do at least 50 percent.

Not sure what type of vehicle you are bringing or if you have a trailer? You can run out of room fast trying to haul a tank and stand and sump and rocks and fish and water.
Also, one more thing, when I bring the tank and fish to my house, do I just start filling up the tank with my water and then add the fish? I don’t know how I would do that since I would have to make a ton of water.

Make water ahead of time to have at your house ready to go so you can fill it. Make more than you think you will need.

Yes, just be careful with hob equipment and floods.

I was thinking that, But realistically how much water do you think I would need at the beginning just to get the fish in there? I can make more water after but obviously I won’t be able to have the full 120 gallons ready as I don’t have a way to store that much water. I can pick up a plastic storage bin and make some water in there, someone has two 32 gallons bins near me so that would be half the tank and then I can make the other half after the fish are in there.

I would make as much as you can ahead of time, and put it in any buckets/ containers you have. With half a tank you would be able to get circulation through wave makers, but there would be no filtering until the water reaches the overflow, and can drain to your sump. My rodi (75 gpd) only does about 3 gallons an hour, assuming nothing slows it down.

I have a 200GPD so it would 8 hours to fill both buckets. Most likely 5 hours though.

I don’t think you can put the fish in the tank until it’s completely full, heated and the filtering through the sump. I would plan on keeping the fish in smaller heated tank/tote/container until you get the new tank filled with water and sand at least. I would also try to get all the live rock in there before the fish incase the die off from the rocks causes any temporary ammonia spikes.

You need enough to cover the rock if possible. The fish and rock can stay in a tub for awhile while you mix and make more water.

It takes a long time to make water and get it up to temp. That’s why you want as much as you can ready to go.
