So when I test Calcium using my Red Sea test kit, the following happens:

  1. Add 10ml tank water to vile.
  2. Add 5 drops of reagent A. Sample becomes cloudy.
  3. Add 1 measure of reagent B (pink powder). Color turns to dark purple, which is the end color of the test. It should start out as pink.
Is this because there is NO calcium in the tank? I can't imagine that's the issue.

Either I am doing something wrong or there is a problem with the test kit.

I do water changes every Sunday. I am sorry I haven't tested a fresh batch of water at the time of this post and will do so this upcoming Sunday.

Thank you.

Is the calcium pro test, or regular calcium?

I've never used the regular calcium test, only the pro. Hated it so much, went to salifert and haven't looked back.

Is it the calcium pro test? Aren't you supposed to at 5ml to the vial, not 10ml? (FYI, vile vs vial)

I'm using Calcium Pro.

The pro test uses 5ml, while the regular test uses 10ml.

Thats why I asked which test he/she was using.

Bingo!

I was using 10ml with the pro test. It only calls for 5ml of test water.

Thank you!

5ml of water, not 10 then. Lets start there as your starting the test completely wrong.
Yeah… thank you for pointing that out. Like I don’t feel rediculous enough already. Lol
