Hi.

I don’t want to use copper for quarantine. If I do hypo on my tangs...will I be able to detect marine velvet?

I plan to quarantine for 2 weeks in hypo then to transfer to to display tank.

I mainly want to prevent ich, but I’ve heard of things about marine velvet. I just want to be able to know if the fish have the velvet before transferring into tank. Is this possible?

I am not expecting hypo to treat velvet, but I just want to be able to tell if they do have. Worst comes to worst I’ll use copper, but I’d rather not!

Personally, I wouldn’t clear fish after just two weeks of hypo. How low do you intend to take it?
True Amyloodinium/velvet can cause disease all the way down to 3ppt for some strains (12 ppt for others). The first symptom you’ll see is rapid breathing. Best to take some baseline respiration rates when you first get the fish, to be able to compare to over time.
Personally, for tangs, I’d opt for Coppersafe. My full protocol is in the top sticky posts above.

There is a protocol for TTM and velvet (more frequent transfers) or a new more experimental hybrid method.
