Got this in the mail over the weekend! I'll post some pictures after I have time to install them. So far very impressed with the build quality. The box even includes a mini level.

Interested to see the setup and pics.

I'm hoping I can use a 2" spacer so that the mount extends a total of 5.5 inches from the wall.

So your post and pics will help me determine the feasibility of that.

I have the brackets installed on the wall. It wasn't too difficult. The right bracket is in a stud and the left I had to find the right anchors. Took a trip to Home Depot but I think it's secure. I plan to move the light and rock/coral the same day so need to get this tank filled before you'll see more pictures. So far so good.

I wonder if it looks better if you paint the brackets the same color as one's wall.

Also, can you send a pic of the anchors you used for the non stud?

Hummm. Looks interesting. Waiting to see what I suppose will be the arms--to see how far over the width of the tank you can get your lights. Keep the photos coming. Thanks! :D

The fun part about this mount would be making sure you where mounting to the studs. Would not trust going into dry wall to support this.

Reefwiser,

Seeing your background, would you say those anchors you linked are sufficient if NEITHER of the two wall brackets hit a stud?

Have a look at the hardware store, it will say on the box what they are rated for. They make different sizes, plastic and metal. I think they hold at least 50 LBS each.
They work really well and I doubt you would find anything better to attach directly to drywall with a screw.
