Hi all -

I recently purchased All-For-Reef powder after seeing all the hype over the last couple of years. I didn't realize until mixing it that I need to dose at least 40ml a day based on the TM calculator (220g system). Right on the label of the product, it states that the max dosage is 25ml/day. Will I be safe by nearly doubling that because of my volume?

Why? Just because the directions claim it?

I assume so.

I actually started out with 1/2 the reccomended dose and ended up going to 3/4. Dont be surprised if you dont see a bump in alk for first few days. Apparently some kind of bacterial interaction has to occur for it to start working. What I did was dose a 1/4 amount of reef fusion for alk along with all for reef for first 3-4 days.

I currently dose BRS 2-part. Should I continue dosing the alk initially?

I would hate to give you reccomendation for the brs 2 part as ive never used it. Perhaps someone else can chime in on it.
For me I use the reef fusion 2 that is primarily alk.

I just switched back from two-part (due to the AFR shortage), I was dosing 40 ml a day of two-part, stopped it and started dosing 40 of the AFR. I had no issues. Now I’m back up to my original 43 ml and it looks like I will be increasing soon.

25 mL of All for Reef in 100 L is really a medium to low dose, and not a limit, IMO.

Let's look closer...

All For Reef contains:

Specifications (per 500 mL)
  • Carbonate Hardness Concentration: 2,800 dKH
  • Calcium Concentration: 20,000 mg Ca
  • Magnesium Concentration: 950 mg Mg

So 25 mL contains 1,000 mg of calcium

25 mL added to 100 L boosts calcium by 10 ppm,

It will also boost alk by about 1.4 dKH.

Thus, IMO, that is a low to medium daily dose. Not a high limit.

I’m playing with it too. My alk seems to drop .1 per day. Started Dosing 1 ml now up to 3 ml in a 45 gallon until the alk number is consistent for a few days. Suggestion for me is 8.5 ml per day based on 45 gallon water.

I have a 65 gallon system that I dose 43 ml daily +kalk. It’s a guideline to get you started. As you test you will figure out the correct dosage for your tank.

Your tank looks great. What instigated the decision to dose kalk with the AFR? I’m starting to get into SPS and Sticks and am looking for guidance as my AFR dose increases.

Did they ever state whether there's a reason for that suggested max dose?

Or is it more of a limit so people that have absolutely no idea what they are doing don't spike their tank by randomly dumping in some number stated on the bottle with no regard for the demand of their tank?

I briefly considered switching over to the bulk powder version of afr, would have been at almost double that "suggested" max dose at the time

I am dosing 30ml of AFR a day in a 20 gal mixed tank. In addition to that I am dosing 400ml of kalk and 9ml soda ash. Trident showing stable
