So a few months ago I posted a video of one of my snails that looked like it was "smoking" under water-huge white clouds coming out of it. You all were so helpful to identify this as spawning. Since then I lost one of the trochus snails due to his poor judgement in trying to clean the inside of one of my Nero 3s, leaving me with just two adult size trochus.

Within the last few weeks, I noticed what looked like tiny shells in a few places in my tank. Now there are dozens of them. I literally counted 50 in various stages of development before I stopped.

I was contemplating ordering more clean up crew because I have a bit of hair algae outbreak at the moment, but now I'm hesitant because it looks like I'm going to have more trochus than my tank can support down the road! Is this breeding fairly common in tanks or did I just get lucky?

I might have to make a trip to my LFS in a month and see if I can trade for some frags because I have no clue what I am going to do with all of these guys.

Not sure if it is common in captivity but it sure is awesome! Wonder if your LFS would give you some store credit in exchange for them. Who knows how many will end up growing out in the tank, especially without predators lol
Yeah I only have two clowns in there right now unfortunately due to losing both new fish from a recent shipment. There shouldn't be any to predate them, so I expect many of them will grow to maturity. Especially with my current GHA situation creating a nearly unlimited food source.

They are at plague numbers in my tank only a few get big but I have had small babies for years, they are always getting sucked out during water changes, or getting into the sump and plumbing, even in the skimmer neck. I love using Trochus snails tho, its a great little snail

I bought probably 15 trochus snails overtime to replace as they passed but now I have an exposion of babies. They're also all over the sump.

If any of you with too many babies are in Northern California, I’d be more than happy to take some off your hands :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

These snails breed like rabbits in my 90G. But--in my humble opinion--they are the best snail CUC available to us, so I am happy to have them be a plague. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

My nassarius snail are active in laying eggs, constantly, very few grow, I have 7 new babies wondering around and before only 5 new so increasing.
this is definitely a thumbs up and brilliant achievement, don't change anything, your aquarium is a great place for them to reproduce:) :)
