I know about the “ugly” stage of cycling but this is ridiculous.

I dosed the Reef Flux. The skimmer has to be left off for 3 days and I pulled out the carbon and gfo. Next I’m going to study the nitrate and phosphate dosing directions. Looks like my acan isn’t going to pull through the nutrient starvation. I’m holding out hope that once I can elevate the numbers again, it might rebound.

So I read the directions and it says I need to dose microbactor as well. Is Dr. Tim’s One and Only the same kind of thing?

Micro Bacteria is a bottled bacteria yes.

I belive it has an origanic carbon component.

Pers. I wouldn’t use that to treat a dino or a Chrysto or cyano.

So when the nutrients rise and the algae starts to die off, is there any danger of an ammonia spike as the biofilter replaces the algae as the nutrient remover?

It is possible, but unlikely. The more likely result will be an algae bloom of a species that is not impacted by the Fluco.

Your Acan will make it. He might look like crap for about 6 weeks, but he will bounce back.

I dosed nitrate and phosphate today. I just realized I made a mistake on the phosphate. I think instead of 0.03ppm I might have dosed it to 3ppm. Help!

I did not read all the replies so forgive me for asking a question that others may have posted.why do you run the tank that long without lighting? My tank with full light since day one she’s 7 months old not perfect but not bad.

I would take a deep breath, pour 2 fingers of Makers Mark, and not worry about it. Phosphate isn't a toxin, it is a food source. And a clean food source at that.

Bad test kit? Maybe you didn't dose as much as you thought?
No it’s new Hanna Checker PO4 reagent. Very weird. I’m pretty sure I dosed it wrong considering that there’s a dropper in the bottle and I dosed 94ml.
