I mistakenly droppedMy salinity from 1.027 to 1.024…

As the title states I mistakenly dropped my salinity from 1.027 to 1.024

I did a water change with 10 gallons of water RODI Hoping it would drop my salinity to 1.025 but instead it dropped it to 1.0247.

on top of that I got a new clown fish today…

I am using a Hannah tracker to test my salinity. What should I do now?

edit: the only things I have in the tank are 2 clowns and some snails.

clown fish typicaly don't cruise around the tank. they like to stay in one general area. I have a mated pair of clown fish in a 8ft. tank for over 2 years and they have never seen the other side of my tank.

I agree, 1.0247 is totally fine. Don’t over think it. Many people use swing arm hydrometer or refractometer and the error margin is over .003 for both so I assume many many tanks run around that.

But would the sudden change make a difference?

1. 025 was your goal. You got 1.0247 A difference of .0003 This is beyond negligible.
besides that, do you know what the salinity was at the lfs where you got your clown? Probably less than that.

Going from higher to lower salinity fast is ok. Goin from lower to higher salinity fast is not ok.

A heavy rain storm on a shallow reef could probably do that short term.
Give them a week to calm down, then raise it back up slowly - no more than 0.003 per day and slower if you like.
And don't put dry salt directly into the tank!!

Don’t try to raise it up right now. Let it settle for a few days. My FOWLRs are kept at about 1.021-1.022 anyway (depending on my mood) LOL. As stated by others— a quick salinity “increase” would not have been good.

Fresh water dips (no salinity) is a common treatment for parasites where fish is immediately transferred to the freshwater for 5 minutes and then back. I do this for all of my fish during QT like many others. Don’t sweat it, slowly bring it back up through evaporation.

They can tolerate salinity drop way better than salinity rise. When we get our fish from pet store there salinity is low to combat dissise. That is why we acclimate them to our tanks slowly. Because the salinity is going from 1.017 to 1.025. That is what puts them in shock.
