I wouldn’t say it’s a ‘cure all’, rather a ‘cure some things’, but it’s definitely helpful in my opinion. I actually just did a rip clean, 100% reboot two weeks ago on my tank, and it went from being completely toxic to being completely infested with dinos, hahahaha. I’ll take the trade off, however

A benefit of rip cleaning from those threads is de aging a reef, having zero invasions and ability to feed the tank more vs less which grows corals quickly. They're not harmful to run, they're regenerating and invigorating and oxygenating and have zero down sides. They are an easy way to guide out the uglies in a new tank vs entertain them six months. Rip cleans remove systemic waste vs kill a target like cyano and rot it internally, rip cleans make use of a systems easy access and save months of parameter chasing and buying things at retail stores. When you move homes, moving a rip cleaned tank is safer than moving a non rinsed one. Anytime someone wants a bright shiny reef by 3pm today/ run the rip clean post your after pics

Algae Identification

Any opinions on what type of algae this is growing on my rocks and sand bed?

I'm a big proponent of this process. It condenses what could be months of battling stubborn algae to a single afternoon with little to no adverse effects or risk to the system when performed correctly.

Now, its still very important to discern the cause of the problem in the first place because while this will reset you back to a clean tank, it won't necessarily prevent outbreaks in the future.

I'm new to saltwater tanks and adding hydrogen peroxide to it. What are all the pros and cons

Im currently dosing H202 to fight some ICH in my display. I have noticed some corals are annoyed by it. I dose when the lights are off. Otherwise its definitely helping the ich and algae from over feeding the tank to keep the fish eating.

a totally different option is being investigated, not a resolved post. Don’t do a rip clean it’ll be dangerous if you partially run one.

You should have seen the tank before, last month it was covered with all kinds of slimily stuff. If I were too turn on the whites or blues over 20% intensity my tank grew all sorts of stuff all different colors.

I replaced most of the tap water I had used with RODI water. I was told it would make a big difference.
I removed all the rocks, fish, the shrimp and vacuumed all of the water (I was scared to wash my sand) I have lots of snails and hermit crabs besides the LTA wouldn't come off the bottom I was scared to hurt it. scrubbed the life rock cave, cleaned the rocks, walls, glass.

ill take pictures when I get home to my tank for my time off of taking care of my dad he's got alztimers and cant be left alone.

I think my problem was tap water. now that most of the system is RODI water nothing grew back yet I missed a spot so my snails and coops have food
