I'm definitely a rookie and have a ton of learning to do, but it's fun. I took these all in raw and did very little with them in lightroom.....mainly because I don't know how to use lightroom very well.

Looks really good! Which macro did you rent? Also, how are you uploading your pictures?... directly to R2R or are you using an external host?

I rented a canon 100mm macro lens...this one:
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/.../lenses/ef/macro/ef-100mm-f-2-8l-macro-is-usm

I uploaded directly to r2r.

I have a lot of learning to do. I have no experience with this. If anyone has a better lens suggestion or some advice on the pictures I'd love to hear it. The pictures don't look near as good as a lot of the pictures of the month contests.

I took the pictures under LED lights in raw format. I'm thinking I need to turnoff the LEDs and only turn on the T5's. The colors didn't really turn out very good on the cyphastreas.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would recommend Flickr to host your pictures. It should be free and it will not degrade your photos in any way. Whereas a lot of other hosting sites compress them... just like R2R. Here two of my images hosted by R2R and then hosted on Flickr. You can easily see the difference in color and richness.

last two were linked form flickr.

Next up is to get even closer to pick up more detail. I'm still shooting from probably 6-7 inches away

If you click on the photos of mine that are hosted on Flickr, it will take you to the actual Flickr photo location within my album. Once there, just look below the photo and it will display the camera, lens and settings used for each shot. Good luck with it... once you figure it out, it's cake!

Very nice shots.
yes do experiment with T5 and with combination of LED and T5.
I see some distortion most likely cause you're not shooting perpendicular to the glass, stabilizing the camera a bit more will also help. checkout the photography articles in the sticky part of the photography forum those will help.
in lightroom you won't need to do much with those pictures once you have inproved sharpness and decrease the distortions there. maybe a simnple White balance adjustment to decrease the blue, then workign out the levels and adding a bit of contrast and you should be fine.
R2R compressing the photos doesn't usually affect resolution to the point where yo ucan see any big difference on the screen if the pictures are good enough from the start.

There are some great photos posted here. Were you guys shooting through any type of gel filter? I have a Tamron 90mm on the way for my D800 and wondering if I'll be good to shoot as-is.

Biggest thing I've learned is the real magic happens in post processing.

Still learning though. Can't seem to turn up the yellow as much as I'd like without distorting the image too much.

shooting in RAw will allow you much better control on White balance in post processing.

I do. I have a Nikon D5300. I've actually been reading a lot of your content that is posted. It's all been pretty educational and helpful so thank you. I'm still struggling to get better jpeg compression without have to hit the noise reduction/dehaze so hard. I'm provided Photoshop by my employer but at work I use it completely different so I'm still learning that end of photography too.

This photo is taken with my Nikon using the wmu app connected to my phone and edited with Lightroom.

This photo is the same photo but from my camera and ran through Photoshop CC.

The yellow still isn't quite where I want it but the difference is night and day.
