Hi everyone.
My wrasse has lacked vigor in his swimming effort since I received him about a week ago. She’s a golden rhomboid fairy wrasse. She seems to have full motion in her dorsal fin, but I have yet to see any definitive motion in the causal fin.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

That's how most wrasses swim, looks completely normal to me :) They use their pectoral, dorsal and anal fins to moves around more than their caudal/tail fin. They will use the caudal fin for escaping danger and quick bursts of speed.

@nautical_nathaniel im glad you think so. I’ve never seen her use a burst of speed like my other fairy wrasse that’s in quarantine. Maybe it’s just a bit of paranoia on my end

Is it eating? It looks like it is thin and weak. I would reduce the flow from that powerhead and feed it vitamin rich food. Soak the food in Selcon if you can get it. Also, look for any spots or other signs of illness.

Yes, it’s eating. I’ve been feeding it multiple times a day since I got it a week ago. I’m at work currently, but will turn the flow down when I get home. I’ll also remove the prazi I added with carbon tonight to limit her exposure to it.

Yeah it definitely is not swimming normally, not sure if it is just weak like mentioned above or if it has an injury

Any suggestions beside feeding frequently and quality foods? I only feed frozen foods, and I make sure I give a variety. Have LRS Reef Frenzy, Mussels, Krill, Brine, Bloodworms, Mysis, another blend food thing, and I occasionally soak their food in vita-chem although I don't know how effective it is.

Should I treat with food soaked in Kanaplex? In case it’s a swim bladder problem?

I wouldnt do meds unless you know what you’re treating for. Some of the other reefsquad folks are wrasse lovers. I’m sure they’ll be along to comment too.

Neither do I. Who knows... I guess it's just one of those things you might never figure out.

@Humblefish any idea what might've been the cause of death?
