I know there seems to be these two types that I see

One is a flatter, plating type that seems easy to keep

The other is fleshier, moundier, and has more prominent mouths and seems to be very fussy.

The top two grow fast, the others are slow growers.

From my experience they like clean water, can take as much light and flow as my acros.
I suspect chalices may tolerate less than ideal conditions but they will not look the best.
Some of the expensive chalices can be as temperamental as expensive acros, stn/rtn within a day. Had it happened on few occasions, one day there was nice chalices, next day white bone structure.
The Hollywood stunner has long sweepers so that chalice needs its space… The other not so bad.

Good luck,

I would agree with you, mine was a grafted frag and more of the plating type.

Oh wow, didn't know they could get aggressive like that
Yup, here caught them sweepers in action today, usually they come out at night and is 2x as long. I was doing some broadcast feeding today and they came out during day time. This is why my gorgonian stalks are bare lol

I had a raja grow from 1.5 to 8” in a year then suddenly die from some type of hole boring worm :(

And i have this Taiwan rainbow that I keep in high par and flow.

The brightness of red has morphed, and the eyes have changed from orange to yellowish/green. It’s growing well so I don’t really want to move it, but I do wonder if lower par would make the red return

It certainly doesn't help that the trade has labelled several different species from completely different families with unique growth forms and uniquel habitats all as "chalice". It's frustrating in the same way "softies" and "sps" are as categories wrt care.

I got mine from a gentleman on here, his was dinner plate sized but it’s sweepers were stinging his gonis so I fragged it for him and he gave it to me. Mine is on a rock just off the sand. I have fragged it 3 times to keep it's size down after I let it get to big and it took out two acan colonies. The last fragging was Friday.
