I am trying to decide whether to get an icecap 1k or 3k for a deep blue 48 x 18 x 12 tank. It will not have any sps or lps-- just macroalgae, softies, and mangroves. I figure the new tank was my chance to try out gyre-type pumps.

The 1K is pretty powerful for it's size and can be essentially halved if it is still too strong. That's what I would go with for a 45g

I have one on my 25g lagoon and it can move a lot of water. With rockwork and everything I’m actually going to add a second and run them both at a lower speed. The price is hard to beat at half the price of a mp10
