Thinking of setting up a small frat tank for my corals as I don’t have anything big. This would allow me to hypo the tank which I read will kill ich and less stressful to the fish.

Do I need to cycle the frag tank or would it be okay to put some live rock from my main display with the corals and a light with some flow?

It is soaked in selcon for a few minutes and always comes out a little cloudy when I do it. I should even rinse the selcon off?

I’ll trying to get another video with more white but I have to use a bright flashlight and I really am hating stressing these guys out.
That’s the problem with soaking food with selcon - it rinses off into the tank. I don’t soak foods, I add supplements either in gelatin or paste that doesn’t wash off (that’s a public aquarium product though).

just wanted to update everyone.

Everyone is still eating and acting normal with the exception of my royal gramma. Even my watchman goby has popped back up.

The yellow tang, carpenter wrasse, blue tang and royal gramma are the only ones showing the spots. Nobody is itching or swiping.

I currently have two sponge filters in my sump and was instructed to keep them in there for two weeks prior to setting up the QT tanks. In the meantime I’ve changed my food to LRS and keeping plenty of nori in the tank. I plan on not doing any major changes in the tank to reduce stress as well.

Finally as I wait I’ve ordered two cultures of white worms to start farming them to feed live foods. I’ve read and seen how much better live foods are so wanted to keep providing the best I can for them.

Hopefully over the next couple weeks all the fish will stabilize and the ich will die down a bit to let them heal and relax until I can get the tank set up. My LFS advised me that if the fish make it through the initial wave of being completely covered and eat well then there’s a good chance I can manage the ich, but I won’t be able to add any fish to the tank as they will be prone. Thinking over my options as this tank isn’t my forever tank, and I’m upgrading in April to a larger where I could break everything down and do proper QT.

A lot of decisions but doing my best to keep everyone in best shape that I can currently help.

Well looks like first wave is over. All fish are back out and acting normal like nothing happened and eating really well. Going to do some smaller water changes over the next few days to not stress them out too much.

I lost just the baby blue tang, which makes sense as he was only in there for a few days before the outbreak started and never got a chance to relax in his surroundings.

Not sure if anyone is following along, but more of updating for myself :).

Some spots have come back on the royal gramma and yellow tang. The carpenter wrasse is rubbing against rocks but not nearly as much as before. All fish are eating a ton and active.

I got my white worm cultures in and have those starting to cook. There was so much in it that I was able to drop a good amount into the tank. All fish ate it except for the carpenter wrasse who seemed more curious than hungry.

I did a 30 gallon water change a couple days ago so water is low in nutrients. I have the two sponge filters still in the sump hopefully getting them some beneficial bacteria growing on them for a couple weeks. Still trying to figure out if I can set up a QT or buy an oversized UV.

Depends if you plan on treating the tank properly or attempting management. UV will be helpful for management along with live worms which you’re doing, and very clean water.

Just an update for everyone.

I lost three fish. Both of my clowns and the royal gramma. Yellow tang, carpenter wrasse, and watchman goby are still alive and eating well.

QT ended up leaking yesterday while it was cycling (seems about my luck lately). Luckily, I don’t see any spots right now and again they are eating well and often.

Currently switching between TDO pellets soaked in selcon, LRS reef frenzy, and mysis. I’ve tried giving some white worms but there was zero interest this time.
