The ammonia badge went straight to green with the new salt water.
I added some from DT but made up fresh.

3 tangs have been in the QT tank 24hrs... the other 5 went in tonight.
Dosed seed and prime tonight ... will check CP level in an hour....

added a little food, they were not overly keen, more interested in hiding. But the wrasses and a tang did come out and grab a bit of food. Only adding a pinch at a time to make sure the food is eaten..

Added an ice cream container, half full for the wrasses.. they have not found it yet.

Should I test for ammonia ?

Can you clarify for me: you said the ammonia badge turned green, and later you asked if you should test for ammonia? The green color indicates some ammonia present. What other ammonia test do you have available?

Don’t forget that copper power is going to add about 0.50 ppm ammonia to any test results for the first few days after dosing.

As the picture shows... Seachem test kit
Total Ammonia - low reading
Free Ammonia - zero reading
Seachem Badge - .05 ppm

To be honest I have no idea what to expect here, I am adding prime and crossing my fingers.
I have 50l of water ready to go.... not sure when to change it.

Your comment - Don’t forget that copper power is going to add about 0.50 ppm ammonia to any test results for the first few days after dosing - looks to be spot on.....

When should i change 50l / 13G of water?
Is a regular change - like every second day a good plan?
Or just use prime for now...?

thanks

Fish to catch for QT tank - try to catch these tonight.
that would be 3 days for some tangs... the first 3.

2 x clowns
1 x Cardinal
1 x rudy head wrasse
1 x 6 line wrasse

I'm concerned about you using Prime. SeaChem says not to use it with their Cupramine, as it releases free copper. The chemistry of Copper Power and Coppersafe is different than Cupramine, but SeaChem is under no requirement to test Prime on other products. I hear "my fish died from copper treatment". I never use Prime with copper, and I never see these reported copper issues. What if this reported mortality is due to Prime breaking the Amine-Copper bond?

There is also this nagging opinion that Prime doesn't work very well. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/does-prime-actually-detoxify-free-ammonia-nh3.849985/

I use Amquel with no issues.

Amquel - we can not get this in NZ, I can order it from the USA - take 10days to arrive and cost $70 USA for 3 8oz or $100NZ bottles... half the cost is freight.

If you think I should I will order these.
But I have read that prime and CP are ok... ?

Yes, I've seen that thread, but I still question it. Given that you can't get Amquel without a delay and great cost, I guess I'd go with it, (because it is a given that high ammonia will kill the fish) but I still maintain that the question remains open regarding using Prime with any amine based copper, and then, does Prime even de-toxify ammonia as effectively as Amquel does?

Don't forget that ammonia toxicity is highly correlated with the pH of the water. In many cases, you can reduce the toxicity of the ammonia by just keeping the pH lower. Marine fish can tolerate a pH as low as 7.5 for extended periods, and the ammonia is much less toxic at that pH as it is at, say 8.2 At the very least do NOT attempt to buffer the pH up in the QT unless it drops below 7.4

Monday morning... fish in QT tank day 5.
still 3 fish to catch...

1 x Red Head Wrasse... he is going in to the bottle trap so today.....I hope
1 x 6 line

I have 2 x manderin in a seperate tank
I am waiting to see them eat, they were eating frozen etc in the LFS when I purchased them.

Plan is to Quarantine them... some how??? Copper Power - start low and ramp up?
What do i do with the Mandarins?

Water of the large QT tank.

So this is what I have done...
12 fish in 58G tank
Copper Power @ 2.20 - Day 5 - will go back to zero,, still two fish to add.

Dosing Seed everyday, night and morning with some Bac 7
Dosing 1 x cap Prime night and Day....

Free ammonia is clear - no colour change on the yellow Seachem disc
Total ammonia is dropping to super low...0.01 - 0.02
Only done 1 small water change in 5 days...
Will test Nitrates... that will be through the roof I image ...
