This is starting to grow on my rock. Went from barely there to quarter inch in about two weeks. Is it just “ugly” algae or something else?
I started this tank beginning of February so it is new.

What is this bubbling brown spot?

Natural stage of a new tank. Looks like some diatoms along with a little hair algae to me. Snails and hermits would clean it right up.

Any recommendations on what kind?
I have a half dozen or so miniature blue crabs, a couple other unidentified hermits and two trochus snails.

I’d do more trochus. I have hundreds in my 90g. They are the main ones that clean your rocks. Turbos help with that too. For sand you want nassarius, hermit crabs you want blue leg hermit crabs because they stay small. Other hermits are not reef safe, especially once they are big.
