Can anyone help I'd this little thing? It looks like about 8 stems with 2 bunched at top that look like cotton balls or dandelion heads.
This rock was live from lfs and has been in this tank for about 4 months. It's is near the top and only showed up tonight. Someone said aptasia but I have never seen nor can I find one that looks like this.

Is it hard or soft? Is it actually attached to the rock? Any more pictures from differing angles?
It is attached to the rock. Touching it doesn't make it close at all. I will check to see if hard and working on other angles. Been told aptasia and feather dusters so far so still looking.

New pics incoming soon

Def not Aiptasia. Thinking a sponge or tunicate but the stalk like extensions are highly unusual.

Agreed and ty. Here are a few pics from the end of the tank. I may try to lift rock to get close up tonight.

After looking at it for a while, it reminds me of old byssal threads that may have been left by a mussel or clam.

That's a very good suggestion. I do have a flame scallop that has moved around the tank for about for days. He has stopped and attached himself for awhile and then moved on. It's possible he made it there at some point.
