I purchased a polyp from a friend who told me they were sticker shocks. Said friend purchased them directly from Ben at BSA Corals. He bought a large frag pack of corals and I was told by my friend they were sticker shocks. I was just informed they are not what I thought they are.

Anybody have some insight? TIA

I hear you. I've received some coral overnight but have yet to ship overnight. A couple of my reefing friends have shipped for years so I'll give it a whirl! I'm located in 75043. Dallas, TX suburb

Mine are from the same colony. I think it's the difference in lighting. Mine are in higher light where as these are in lower light. Any insight?

They may have morphed although losing all of the patterning is strange to me... could be lighting or parameters but tough guess, they generally hold color well, what lights you using ?

I'm running 2 Reef Radiance LEDs (before the wifi capable lights) about 12" above the waterline on a 40 breeder. I realize it's way more than needed but I didn't want to have too little light when I put together my setup. Whites are about 35% and blues are around 80%. These zoas have been on a frag rack about 6-7" below the waterline. With my SPS frags.

So Sticker shocks/brohicans/reverse halls will all morph depending on the light. I personally haven't seen the go full red like that but its not out of the realm of possibility. They're similar to utter chaos in that the presentation will vary wildly depending on lighting and parameters.

If I was coming in cold my first instinct would be to say bloodsuckers. While they usually have the green skirt/rainbow barred skirt it's not unusual for the skirt to vary. Mine are similar to yours. This might well be one of those 'wait and see' sorta situations.

@littlebigreef I took a better photo last night. They don't look quite as red and the polyps on the sides getting less direct light have more of the black pattern to them. This is definitely a lighting/parameter thing. Thanks for the info. Until yesterday I had no idea they could change so much.

I had a huge colony of flaming mohicans that were washed out from low nutrients with no green skirts.
Nobody wanted to take the risk and buy them until i started getting them to color up green around the edges.
