Hi all, had this ‘growth’ hanging around in fits and starts. Tanks is 1 year old. It did have I believe dinos hanging off the end of it for a while, but have raised nutrients from (2N/0.03P) to (10N/0.10P) and the snots have gone so it looks clean now. Just multiplying.

Snails don’t touch it and with nutrients up it’s going nuts. It’s pretty attached to the rock, so have to almost scrub to remove some of it after tearing off by hand.

Any help on what it is and an associated weed whacker would be appreciated!!

Looks like bryopsis to me. Remove what you can manually and try to get nutrients in check. Lettuce nudibranchs have worked wonders at removing the rest for me. Just make sure you get the ones that eat bryopsis. There are 2 similar looking ones under the same trade name and only one eats it. The ones reefcleaners.org is currently selling are the bryopsis eaters. Very few other creatures will eat it. I try to avoid the chemical methods.

If bryopsis, I can't tell from the pics if that or GHA, then an old school way of trying to get rid of it is to raise your magnesium levels. I believe it wasn't the magnesium but something else that gets added from the magnesium chloride that can possibly help get rid of bryopsis.

Are there any better photos or something I can provide to get an accurate diagnoses, or should I get a microscope for full confirmation?
A microscopic i.d. if possible is always best. Then you can really customize your treatment.
