ID these zoas? Pinky-orange discs and frills, dark ring at the bases of their frills, yellow mouths.

Any ideas? Bought them no-name at a LFS. They grow at a decent speed, but not too fast. Don't mind the missing polyps in the second pic, my micro decorator crab tried to wear a couple. That pic is included for a different perspective on the colors. Pics have not been edited in any way. And no, the encrusting montipora is not staying there, I just got it and I put it there so it can acclimate to my light.

Yes, technically that's correct. Though there are multiple species of zoanthid. But that's not really what I was looking for, ya know? I'd like to know if this morph has a specific name or not.

That looks about right, thank you. Does anyone have any pics of those that are just under whitish lights, not super hyped up like retailers tend to do? For comparison purposes.

What’s up? First one is Halle berry/cry baby and the second one appears to be beauty and the beast :)

Yep, the second is Beauty and the Beast (freshly fragged), but the ones I'm asking about are in the bottom of the pic and it's a good color example.

Are Halle Berry and Cry Baby the same exact morph, or two different morphs? They look like mine.

JF crybabies look like alien antivenoms to me not sure which came first but I’ve found he renames a lot... daisy cutters = Jason fox stargazers but I’ve had daisy cutters way before he came out with star gazers

Yeah, Halle Berry looks right. Cool, thanks. I figured these had to have a name, they're pretty.

Honestly, the cry babies and the Halle berries look very similar, here are high quality pics of both. Orange body, yellow center, pink skirt, even down to the dark bow tie markings outside the mouth... I mean literally almost identical. Both of these pics are from the JF and WWC websites

Is there any characteristic that anyone can point out, that's reliably different between the morphs? Because if not, I'm inclined to think they're the same thing. Maybe all the ones named JF Cry Babies are descended from one specific colony of that morph, or something along those lines.

You know, I used to be into keeping Venus flytraps. Those have different morphs, too, but it works differently than zoas. Unless a flytrap is a direct clone (via cuttings, division, or tissue culture) of the original of that named morph, you can't say they're the same morph, no matter how alike they look. It's to help keep genetic drift from changing the morph, since seeds result in plants that are different from what made the seeds. If you buy, say, a B-52 flytrap, you can be confident that it will be exactly like the described B-52, because it's a clone of that original. It may be a clone 10 times removed, but it should be, functionally, genetically identical to the original. Meanwhile, with zoas, we all go "yep, that looks like this morph, we'll call it this morph".

So the main thing between alien antivenoms aka JF crybabies and halle berries is the antivenoms don’t have a complete bow tie and there’s a black ring around the mouth and in my experience have more glitter looking shine to them...

Boy, it's hard to tell. I see what you mean about the differences, but with mine under these lights, as opposed to whatever combo of lights and photo editing makes online pics look like that, it's tricky. I am tentatively going to say that mine look more like Alien Antivenom, because they do have a tiny bit of... not quite glitter per se, but they're covered in super tiny flecks. Halle Berry are maybe smoother.

I don't want to bother everything tonight, but tomorrow I'll turn my tank lights more blue, and see if I can get a decent pic of these for comparison purposes. I'd like to figure out which they are. The name doesn't matter too much to me, but I do plan to frag these eventually when they multiply, and I want to be able to sell them under a specific name and not "it's one of these two things". Just so whoever buys them knows what they are for sure.

+1 to this, my Halle Berries are much better looking imo than my cry babies. They also have a dotted sort of black ring around the yellow mouth where the cry babies lack these tiny black dots. I wouldnt buy both of these zoas, I’d pick one. The only reason I have both is because the cry babies came as a freebie from a friend when I was a young reefer and didn’t know there wasn’t much of a difference. They are very nearly identical though and honestly probably came from the same wild colony in the ocean

Under close inspection, I’d say almost definitively Cry Babies because they don’t have the black dotted ring of a Halle Berry
