Hi ,

For those using pentair UV 40 watts , what is the flow rate you maintain it at and how long do you run the UV ?

There are contradicting views on the flow rate and hence checking .

Goal is to prevent against outbreak of protozoan diseases and prevention of ich parasites .

Regards,
Abhishek

I run 700 gph through my pentair 120. They have a chart online and it says 98gph min and 164gph max.

Thank you for the replies . Yes , am following the advice from the website but my LFS here runs way lower flow and has quite a few expensive fishes in their display . Got the number of pentair customer care to talk to the resident biologist . Will call and validate the flow .

Abhishek

I have 2 UV sterilizers on my aquarium, a 40watt pentair same as you and a 57 watt aqua UV. I run 125 gph on 40 watt same one you have and 150gph on 57 watt. The more contact time with the bulb the better depending on what you're trying to accomplish. Some people just use for water clarity vs parasite management.

Good luck!

Am in the same ball park and running 115-120 gph through the 40 watt . Do you run it 24x7 ?

I only run it for 14 hours as my tank is heavy acro dominated and not sure of the I’ll effects of running it 24x7

Abhishek

Yes I run 24/7 currently. I had ich breakout 5 months ago and went fallow for 80 days and run the 2 UV at these low flow rates to help support the eradication process.

I will most likely reduce down to 14 hours in the near future. I have acros too and not experiencing any issue with them.
