If you were buying a 6ft tank today, what dimensions would you go with for height and width?

If you were buying a 6ft long tank today, what dimensions would you choose? I'm hopeful that we might move later this year into a bigger place...and I'm already making plans.

30-36" front to back (depending on available space) and 22-24" tall

My true dream would be 6 x 6 x whatever.....which I could not fit in my little house. But more realistically, I'd be very happy with a 6 x 24 x 18. I like the 18 so I can reach the bottom, and the width of 24 allows for more choices of rockwork. This dimension is about 135 gallons which also makes it more affordable with water changes and whatnot.

I just bought/installed one... 72 x 24 x 30 but...

If I had space I would do 72L x 36W x 30H

Mine is a room divider and 36W would have taken away too much living space.

72x36x36 would be my choice. I know 36" is tall but if tank goes as planned I wouldn't be playing in it much but we know that's never the case. Haha

6' long, 36" wide, 26" tall... My tank size.

Although it's located in a corner of the room, the overflow is on a 36" end, so the flow pattern is peninsula style. I love having 3 feet of front to back depth. Almost get to have three different display regions. front, back, and middle.

It's currently in it's ugly phase, or I'd post picts.

One vote for shallow.

Mine is 60" x 30" x 18", and I'm quite happy with it. Easy to light, easy to maintain, don't get my sleeves wet working on it...

Short and fat. That's what I like :D
Who made your tank?

I'm looking at a 60x24 footprint (but could be talked into 30 deep), 16-18" tall, with an overall system height of 50". The sump and skimmer I have in mind will fit fine under a "short" stand, and I will be able to reach whatever I want without a step stool (plus I love looking at my tanks from the top :) )

If I had the floor space this is what I would choose. I love my 90 so much more than a 55, and really wish I had a 24" instead of 18" depth. 36" would be amazing.

I love my current tank, 72*30*24. Any taller I couldn't reach the bottom, any wider and I couldn't reach the back, but if I had the space for a peninsula then for sure 36 wide. Local guy here is selling an 8'*4'*2' tank, no way the wife would allow that.

Go as Big as you can physically manage you won’t be disappointed, here’s what I did after years of having all types of small and large tanks!

I had a custom tank made from C2C coast 2 coast aquariums in Toms River NJ.
It’s 78x24x16 shallow lagoon
Then I had it built on top of a 42” tall custom steel stand. So it’s a giant lagoon tank that’s easy to view. I was tired of my Reefer 750, it was fantastic yes BUT. I noticed how everyone bent down or squatted to see all the cool stuff on the bottom parts of the tank.

Now you can stand in front of my lagoon tank without bending over and it’s easy to reach into for anything you had to do in the tank
