I have been in the hobby for almost 8 years now. I started with a standard 29 gallon that I ran until May of 2021 when we moved and I upgraded to the Red Sea. I never really wanted this tank but I was able to get it a good deal right at the time we were moving into our first house so I went with it. Anyway, I have been a bit bored with the Reefer as it's dimensions are pretty similar to the same 29 I ran for so long so I was looking for something a bit new and came across this new peninsula. Here are some pics of the 29 and Reefer 250.

The 29

Ha yeah I haven't started fresh in so long. I've learned a lot since last time and am really excited to scape with some dry and build out a vision!

P.S. also nervous...
Its all part of the fun.

So I have actually been home with covid all week but am now starting to feel better and am getting really antsy about beginning the breakdown of the Reefer since it's in the way. So tomorrow I am going to head to Petco to pick up a 40G breeder to move a few rocks and the livestock into. After that I will clean off the rest of the rocks and toss them into a bucket with some bleach for a week or so. I decided to go with dry rock for this tank to finally get rid of some tough turf algae and the dreaded vermetid snails that have over run the tank.

I have pretty much everything I will need on it's way from BRS right now but I am still pondering the lights and how to do the plumbing. After measuring the inside of the tank without the overflow I have about 40inches x 24inches to cover with lights. Don't need high par on the side glass! I think I am going to go with the 36" ATI Hybrid fixture and then run 2 XR-15s. I think I am going to go blue but eh idk might go with the pro. Any opinions on this?

For plumbing I am kinda confused. With my 29 I just used soft tubing but I want to go with hard this time. If I am using 1in pipe do I also get 1in ball valves and unions?

Here is a current picture of the reefer and the room where the peninsula will go.

Well it was a long day but a good one! About 50lbs in rock and 50lbs in sand showed up along with my Fiji Cube 24" sump, me likey!

I also emptied out the tank and got all the livestock moved over to a 40breeder on the floor. I also moved a few pieces of rock. Overall it went well but did lose a rock flower anemone that I accidentally split in half trying to chip it out of the rock.

Here is where things are for the day.

I have the rest of my rock, maybe 40ish pounds, outside in a big tote filled with bleach water. Was very sad to do as there was life allll over it and some amazing sponges but it was a necessary part of the process.

But why? Could you have put the rock in the new one.

I have had a lot of the rock for years now and a lot of the rock is covered in verminenated snails and some tough turf algae I've never been able to get rid of. So the hope is to get rid the algae and limit the snails to the point where bumble bee snails might help! Ha

I also just kind of wanted to start a tank from scratch. I've moved the tank a few times but haven't started fresh in almost 8 years now so kind of want to have fun with it and build a nice scape without my hands in the water.

I have been slowly making some progress after getting over covid. I sold the Red Sea this weekend and got the stand and lights up and ready!

Next up I'll be having some friends over to help carry the tank in and I'll get to plumbing.

The last things I have to buy really are my new LEDs. I'm thinking of going with the xr15 Pros but holding out hope they also go on sale soon ha

The tank is being brought in tomorrow with the help of my wife and sister in law. I think they are both stronger than me so it should be a breeze!

I spent tonight messing around with the rock. I've had it outside drying but I carried it all in and then back out again just to play with it, like some kind of weirdo. My cat Gravy also fell in love with one of my rocks...

Just FYI for the future… I had vermitted snails as bad as they could get, webs everywher, just insane. Only thing that worked, and worked very well, was reef snow… caught in their feeding nets and clogged thier tubes. You wouldn’t know I ever had a single one now as the tubes eventually disappeared.
