Not this time, and not every build!

anymore it seems that every build is acro, I want something different and unique
Do you have a link to the ROTM acro system that you were awarded? I’d like to read up on it. :)

It’s in my signature. If on mobile just turn phone sideways!
Thank you so much! I’m stunned at that tank!

I noticed your tank reads very low in nutrients. Was that on purpose?

If you were to have an acro dominated system today, where do you think you’d prefer to keep your nitrates and phosphates at?

Do you believe acros grow faster in lower phosphates or higher? I see conflicting information because low phosphates doesn’t inhibit calcification, but higher phosphates allows corals to obtain nutrients, which is also helpful for growth.

It’s funny how things have changed. Those low nutrients were on purpose and I used gfo and carbon dosing to get them there. It was just the standard practice and I had a few Mari acros that would brown out at a hint of phosphate which reenforced that method to me.

however now I would keep nutrients higher, perhaps that brown Mari would color up over time at higher levels or it would just be brown, but it seems a outlier. Hans from tropic Marin has been pushing higher levels and I now think one gets more robust growth and color for most acros.

I suspect the older systems that ran low nutrients had a huge reserve they drew on, phosphate bound to the sand that kept them from bottoming out and calcium reactors also essentially dose phosphate with most media, so while levels were low they were not in short supply. My tank always was on the edge and required a great deal of diligence dosing and removing but also had a great deal of food added.

now that we have alk monitors it’s a lot easier to monitor changes that overall increase growth (calcification aka needing to dose more), and it seems most systems even acro are healthier with elevated nutrients within reason.

Got the shipment from dr reef today!

All came in healthy and large. Transferred them to a 5g bucket (discarding shipping water) with tank water and 150ppm peroxide for 30 min bath, they seemed to do fine and are eating tonight. These were not QT’ed from him, just the conditioned option.

Just an update, no fish loss, no fish sign of velvet in DT. Still running peroxide and uv. Coral still seems not impacted and chaeto grows well. I will keep the peroxide going a while longer and both uv.

my friend gave me a split of his CSB. I was hesitant about adding it due to them moving around and fear of killing such a generous gift and initially said no, but I decided I would add it and see what happens. So far it parked in a crevice at the back of the tank of course, but hasn’t moved in days so must be happy-ish. It doesn’t get much light in that spot so we will see.

so overall things are going well, finally!
