Still no observed fish deaths, hopefully velvet isn’t going to show back up. I want to take the uv out of the DT and keep just the sump one running and continue peroxide dosing since have not noticed a downside but I might wait another week. I think velvet tends to hit after 2 weeks and we are well past that. Next week will be a month since added the zebra dartfish and the blues, striped, scissors and goby have all been trucking along.

Love this. Zebra Barred Dartfish ar one of my favorites. That big school of them is really cool.
Thanks! It wasn’t the 1st plan but in the end this might be even better!

so far they don’t seem to fight just flash a bit at each other

I had a pair to start my Lagoon 50 a few years ago. They are jumpers for sure but otherwise a very interesting fish. Mine would swim around occasionally doing a mating dance type thing where they’d twist around each other while swimming pretty quickly. It was fun to watch. I’m upsizing soon and will definitely have at least another pair or trio in the new tank.

All seems to be going well. No disease I have seen, most corals seem to be doing well except maybe the pink leather it doesn’t extend much despite trying a few places.

I took out the UV in the DT and will put in sump - removing the green killing machine in the sump. It’s not the greatest uv so the aquatop is better.

I cleaned it well and amazing the quartz was totally brown! Couldn’t have been very effective. Magic eraser did the trick to my surprise and cleaned it up well.

Ordered a couple more ora tux from algae barn and a Weeping Willow Toadstool from AquaCorals. Interested to see if it will eventually have the polyps hang down. The video looks good and Penny the owner seems very friendly.

Still no fish death or issues so I think I have velvet dealt with, yay!

Dino’s, the main reason I shut down my waterbox, seem to be an issue even with this tank dang it. The velvet peroxide dosing and in sump/dt UV knocked them down but removing one of the UV they came back. Boo.

so I finally gave in and ordered a legit UV and will plumb in my return line. Lifeguard UV have tons of great reviews, seem built like a tank, don’t cost as much as the top brands, and perhaps best have inexpensive white pvc liner to replace yearly. Uv breaks down anything over time so having those to replace is fantastic to prevent leaching and extend the life of the unit. The ballast also has a count down timer of a year which is handy. Plus the amalgam bulbs truly last a year.

Champion lighting had those for $320 which seems like a steal.

Lifegard Pro-Max High Output UV Sterilizer 55 watt 3" Amalgam

Of course plumbing parts add up too and I decided to put a cheap Home Depot stand next to the sump to rest the UV on as it seems the easiest mounting for my situation.

They state for parasites reduce the flow listed by 1/6. My return with head loss is 300-500gph so about perfect.

This is Awesome!!
Thank you! Much appreciated.

I put brightwell spongexcel on a spare doser head at 2ml/day just to see what impact will be. I ordered it before I bought the larger uv to try and combat dinos so I won’t need it now but still will be interesting to see if there are any phenotypic changes in the tank.

Install went fast, had most the plumbing and extra spaflex so didn’t need most of what I bought so can return it at least. Went pretty well, no leaks yet, and looks just as clean as the original plumbing I think (which isn’t saying a whole lot) but still I’m happy. I like using the spaflex bends instead of the 90s I bought. I had arranged it differently in my mind but this worked out once I was playing with it.

Once nice thing too is the aquatop bulb was 13w, the powerhead 27w for a total of 40w so this running off the return is only a bit more but far more effective. I was also running the 24w GKM uv which doesn’t list the powerhead watts but flow was less so let’s say 13w for total of 37w. Both then we’re pulling almost 80w but only 37w of uv and not very effective UV. So compared to running both get to save power and have a much stronger UV system. Yay!

I also only used 2 unions and the 2 reducers so that will be a good size return although shipping for those makes me almost think it’s better to keep them.
