I'm assuming this is the dreaded dinoflatellates?

I take it it is Amphidinium than what you have left. I have had these and silicates dosing works just like a charm and the Corals didn’t mind it. So fare I don’t know anyone who had problems with diatoms bloom used to outcompete dinos.
I'll have to try that because nothing else I'm doing is helping. How are you dosing it? What product are you using?

I have used sponge excel. Dosed to 2ppm and some top up every day for about 2 weeks. Diatoms bloomed in about 3 days and few weeks after I only had diatoms when I stopped dosing. Full story here;

I read through that. All seems like great info and plan. Ok, ordering some sponge excel...

Oh hell, I don't want to kill my shrimp :eek:. Maybe I'll just get the UV tomorrow and start by turning off everything but some blue lights.
You want to promote algae to take the space of the dinos, use the uv, keep the lights on and add live phyto.

Scrub the rocks is very beneficial and turkey bast the sand, turn up the power heads to get all the crap into your filter socks or floss then change them.
keep doing this daily, you’ll see a huge improvement the first day, keep it up for a week or better two.
Worked for me.

So a question I have is lots of people are saying to dose bacteria but won't the UV kill it? And what if I dose the phyto, won't the UV kill that also?

No and yes. Amphidinium is not going to the water column so won’t get to the UV.
most of the phytoplankton will be killed in UV. But still be eaten by pods and corals

So, I've been dosing the Sponge Excel and my sand is brown now with what I think are diatoms. They are not the round dinos for sure although I do still see them but not as much. Can anyone confirm what these are?

I've been trying to match those against diatom pictures and can't seem to match them against any of the photos I can find online. Not sure what they are

No it is not diatoms at least not the type I have seen in my tank. I had cigar and triangular shape ones.
This more looks like some kind of algae and 109% not Dinos :)

Yeah, I've been trying for an hour to match these against any other image I can find and I'm coming up empty.
