I'm throwing my whole house away because of what I just found in my tank...If I have to see it, so do you!

I had one in my 15g nano. I kept waking up to dying or dead snails, and then my Tailspot Blenny got murdered. I was doing some quick maintenance with flow off and found the worm wrapped around another Trochus snail and was able to get it out. I also had TBS rock in this tank.

I highly doubt this is an aphroditois and is probably pretty distant on the Eunicidae tree. There are a bunch of Eunice worms and, I don't think most of the ones we find in our tanks are anything like aphroditois. I would imagine that this is a Eunice worm that came off of gulf live rock. @AlyciaMarie is this TBS / KP / GLR rocks?
You're quite right, of course. Just not sure how to identify more accurately without a pickled sample and a scope in front of me.
Cheers,

UPDATE she is attempting to get them out, will report back the results
Good luck! I failed for over a year. FYI, if you break them apart they can grow back, including growing back heads.

Looking back at some of the monsters I've seen on this forum, I think a pooping pants would be useful too.
Many of the scarier monsters are more benign. The "prettier" ones have caused me the most problems in this hobby. Nothing like a ricordea "sticking" to the back of your hand when you're working on the reef...only to find out later you're pretty reactive to their sting. How many of the fish have spines, and some of them venomous? Nearly all of the fish in the hobby have teeth of some sort, and my clownfish has bloodied my knuckles a few times. I always try to learn as much about the inhabitants as I can, accommodate their needs as best as possible, and appreciate what they each uniquely bring into my reef. If I can't care for them, or deem them too risky, I try to rehome them if at all possible.
Cheers,
Ray

I find them interesting. I don't think a large one would be picky at all about what it eats if it's able to make a meal. They seem opportunistic.

E. aphroditois really is the stuff of nightmares though. I'd never get in the water if they got big enough to catch a person!

After watching some of the night dive videos in the South Pacific of them catching and eating Lionfish...yeesh...
No thanks. And my other half suggested we keep it. Um...not this time.
