The other day, as I arrived home from work, I opened the door to a smell of slightly burned stir fry. It's not uncommon for me, my wife, or the baby sitter to have cooked up something in the kitchen and created an odor which permeates the immidate living space surrounding the kitchen. As the stinch of baby sitter's greasy meal wafted around me I thought of the struggles I have with my 90 gallon mixed reef which sits in the family room boardering the kitchen.
I couldn't help but wonder: how much of an impact do these types of changes to air quality have on a reef?

Should it be a concern and if so, what can be done?

I believe three stuff in nonstick cook ware is hazardous to birds if I remember right.

I would just shut off the skimmer if it gets too smoky or a really strong smell. Skimmer will help anything aerosoled to dissolve into the water.

The primary effect would, I think, be like some organic carbon dosing as organics dissolve into the water via a skimmer or the tank top.

If you do not use GAC, you might consider doing so, but unless you notice some sort of negative correlation, I wouldn't worry much.

Some folks have noted issues with those scented air fresheners, however.

Randy, are you trying to say I should look for something else to blame for my less than perfect SPS history? :)

Maybe. What does less than perfect mean?

Less than perfect means at least 1/2 of my frags didn't make it and 1/2 of the ones that did make it grow slooooow.
