FOODS AND FEEDING– The Indian Ocean Redfin Butterflyfish has a specialized diet of coral polyps,feeding primarily on Acropora corals. It is often reluctant to accept substitutes in captivity, but may consume vitamin enriched brine shrimp, clam, or mashed squid and shrimp on a bleached stony coral skeleton. Once feeding, try offering crustacean flesh, mysid shrimp, and frozen preparations for carnivores. Should be fed a minimumof 3 times per day.
REEFCOMPATIBILITY – No, Obligatory corallivores. Will eat stony corals.
CAPTIVE CARE – The Indian Ocean Redfin Butterflyfish is difficult to acclimate to captivity and if attempted, should be done while the fish is young for better probability of success. Ensure this fish is eating prior to purchase due to its finicky eating patterns. Only one should be kept per tank unless a pair is available. This species will stake out a large territory and may be aggressive toward other Butterflyfish and competitors for food. An ample supply of Acropora is a must.
