Got gifted this reef tank from father in-law 3 weeks ago and used all the old water and live rock after moving it, I added one new piece of live rock and new sand
Never had a saltwater fish or anenome, he had purchased the anemone a week prior to giving me the tank, I’m not sure what type of anemone it is but after some research it looks to be bleached i have been feeding it pieces of krill and it is eating but won’t stay in one spot of the tank it keeps moving side to side
Does it appear to be heathy ?
Any help would be appreciated I have no water tests specs but a test kit is coming from Amazon

It actually looks good. Become familiar with;
Use of test kits
Water changes
Feeding
Light schedules
Recognizing disease

Looks healthy otherwise. It will just take time and optimal conditions to color back up.

Will the bleached anemone make a come back or more than likely die ?
if you feed it it should be ok. Cut up some raw shrimp or maybe frozen silver sides. Offer it one small bit maybe twice daily and see how it does.. when it spits food out it's full.

Start looking into your lighting. I don't recognize what u have but may be underpowered. Also the anthias will need multiple daily feedings to remain healthy as they are very active.

But the tank and fish are looking healthy. As others have stated. The sooner you get a good water change routine going the better.

there's a poster named Orion here who's an anemone gifted jedi

and on a very standout work thread he made on the matter, guess how he regenerated his bleached anemones over and over? (he'd purposefully buy bleached ones from the store on the cheap, come home, do the trick, then re sell or have them shine in his reef quickly)

he takes one snip of a healthy anemone's tentacle and feeds it the the bleached one. not a joke, search him out. amazing.

good luck finding a snip donor but maybe you can among circles if you'll show them the post/search it out

its that zooxanthellae transfer working the magic, I don't even think speciation mattered much we'd need to re discover the post. its on here somewhere.

Do you think it would be safe to purchase a healthy one and try that ? Also do you happen to know what kind of alage this is and what to get to eat it ?

That anemone looks like a very stressed and bleach M. doreensis (LTA). Better picture of the anemone and of the column and foot is needed to definitively him.
He does not look sick, but definitely not healthy. Need to give him tiny food for now, Mysis size food, a few at a time and protect it so fish wont steal the food.
Good luck with him. I hope he turn around and get healthy for you.

Assure light not too bright
It needs zooxanthellae to produce color which is from light and feeding

I’ve been feeding him a small piece of krill every day so far he eats it but now he’s moved farther too the back of the tank an still has not attached to anything yet

One krill daily is too much. Don't feed them that much. Anemones are mostly water, your anemone organic mass is that of a tiny fish like a small damsel. A few mysis shrimp size food is fine for now. It take them a long time to digest food so feed every 3 days is OK.
Look for evidence of food regurgitated back after he eat becasue he cannot digest it and it fester inside him cause him to get sicker.

Sorry not one whole krill more like an 1/8 or 1/4 of a krill

Update if anyone is still attached to this file the anemone has survived and is looking better
Also water parameters at the time were phosphates off the chart low alkalinity of 5.5 an super height phosphates I’ve since put a sock for phosphates regular 10 gallon water changes oncee a week and now have phosphates much lower an nitrates still
High but coming down

Is that the anemone, in the center of that first pic? It looks way smaller, though the better color is good.

Watch out for aggression. Most long-polyped stony corals have long sweeper tentacles they can use to attack anything they decide is too close to them, so they need to be kept apart.

Be sure the phosphates don't get too low, that will kill corals. You generally want to shoot for at least 0.03ppm phosphates, and 5-10ppm nitrates. Higher levels of both is often fine for most tanks.
